Keen - excellent RR and congrats again on the result and BQ!  Great reward for all the effort and training you have put in even though it sounds like conditions were a little challenging.  Although having said that I do enjoy running on a good foggy day, one of my favourite runs I remember from last year was on a cold, foggy morning in the dark around Westhaven at some ungodly early hour, it made me think of Far Harbour from Fallout 4 (if anyone else knows what I'm talking about).  Having WSG for much of the race would've been helpful as a distraction, I like running by myself but for a whole marathon at a relatively small event like that I think it would be a real challenge.

Keen great race report I was totally able to relive your experience. You trained super smart for this marathon and got the rewards.

Keen Great RR!  as much work and miles you put in there was no doubt you would surpass your goal!

Jmac - it’s more due to the point to point nature of the course. I put Berlin way above any other marathon race, it’s just perfect for PR attempts.

Coincidentally, my home town marathon is also perfect for PR attempts as it’s flat and run in June which is almost always cold. People come from all of South America to try their bests. But it usually was hard for me to race it because we tend to take vacations during March/April which disrupts any serious training.

Keen - hilarious strategy by White Singlet Guy, I’m thinking to put it to good use in the future. Congratulations on the great effort, you seem to have judged it quite well.

I went back to check my HR from the 5K in Germany and indeed it was quite low even though I was red-lining.

Keen - Great RR! I can't imagine running a marathon as a solo time trial. Two spectators is crazy!!! It seems like we had exactly the same quad experience. Mine just said "no mas" by mile 18 and it was a struggle to keep it going. I guess that's the nature of the beast though, if you feel great at mile 20 you're not running fast enough.

Flavio - That's too bad, June sounds like a perfect time of year for a marathon (sounds so weird saying that for us northern hemisphere folk).

Mark - Good luck tomorrow! (today? I never know how far in advance you people are, feels like a week).

JMac- thanks, from the future.  Race is tonight.  Weather has been a bit crap here, but it's cooled down which is good, although there's been some rain, which is bad as it'll make the grass bit harder.  Still, I'd be happy with a PB.  I'm also looking forward to the inevitable amusement value of social races like this, where you get a bunch of guys who don't run a lot go out insanely fast for the first km and then die.  Last year the lead group went from 8 to 3 in the space of around 1.5km haha.

Mark - it's really funny with the early rabbits. I will confess however that I have thought many times recently in going for a PR attempt in a longer race so that I can have rabbits for longer and I can avoid the trap of poorly measured races.

Example: Go for the mile record during a 3K, or for the 5K record during a 10K.

                Good luck tonight!

In good news for the PB attempt, one of my co-workers just discovered that Alec Geddes is running.  He was about 30 seconds faster than me at NZ Road Race Champs (10k) so good news for the PB attempt as I'll have someone to chase (and he can clear the second lap congestion for me too haha).

Ran a good PB - 16:25 watch time (2nd place). Official time might shave another second. Absolutely poured with rain so there were a few big puddles too. Guess I owe a race report tomorrow under the JMac rule!

I laughed when MJ asked what the prize money was.  Haha.  I did get a banana though.

10 bananas. It goes exponentially up if you win. 3rd place actually owes bananas.
