What are you running plans for the winter? (Read 817 times)

Double IPA Please!

I mean once the fall races are done- granted yes, some do races all year round; in my area we have a 5k winter race series..but I mean, do you go back to base building again or do you have a set mileage amount OR do you continue to train for races for next year? Fine tune your current plan or do you scale back?

get fat around thanksgiving get fatter around christmas then fell really guilty and start running after new years. will probably try to do some of the Bucks County roadrunners series 5ks to half mary IMHO you need a little time off to do other fun stuff or you'll burn out on running (and maybe get an overuse injury) also it's nice to connect with the wifey and kids

I don't really change too much. Except for the fact that all my runs are indoors on a Treadmill at my local YMCA.

I'm planning to get some proper gear to run outside and keep running. I'm still a newer runner so I'm still base building, I guess.

lots of snow with icy patches on the road combined with temperatures well below zero and icy cold winds makes me dread the thought of running outside. plus all of the nearby trails that I could find are either used by snowmobilers or crosscountry skiers. So those are my excuses for wimping out and staying inside. I have a Pacemaster.
Fall/Winter plans? Pray it gets colder, thank Gee Oh Dee, and run more. Big grin What I'd like to see as a result of loose plans -21-22min 5K -30 min 4 miler -Break into 1:45-1:55 range for a half -Marathon with 30-45 shaven off my prior time (Possibly an Ultra if it gets cold enough)

My target fall race is in November so after that I plan on taking it easy through the end of the year. After a full recovery, so about mid-December, I'll start base building and looking at either an April or June marathon.
Finished my first marathon 1-13-2008 in 6:03:37 at P.F. Chang's in Phoenix. PR in San Antonio RnR 5:45:58!!!!!! on 11-16-08 The only thing that has ever made any difference in my running is running. Goal: Break 2:30 in the HM this year Jay Benson Tri (place in Athena category) 5-10-09

Last year I started increasing my mileage, built up a lot of strength with a lot of trail runs out in the snow...best training I've had in the winter since graduating college. This year, I'm planning on running a 50 miler in January, so I'll work my ass off until Christmas, taper, race, recover, then start training for a May marathon.

Increase mileage for 5 months of base building starting in October. My self proclaimed official base season starts for me in November. I'll still run some harder anaerobic type workouts maybe about once or twice a week to keep the gains from the prior summer season from totally going away, but I'll hold back on the proper track based interval work until the next summer season begins in April.
