Retired shoes (Read 675 times)

Is there anything you can do with your old shoes? They are perfectly good for walking etc, but I have too many and I'll never wear them out. Would charities take them? I guess it might be considered kinda gross to wear old running shoes, but it feels environmentally inexcusable to just throw them away. Thoughts anyone?

There are some options listed here: http://www.runtheplanet.com/shoes/selection/recycle.asp I believe the Nike program breaks down the materials of the shoes and re-uses them to surface running tracks.
I work with an organization that could possibly take them. (Working on the kinks there...) If you're interested, just let me know here and then I'll contact you. Big grin

Running stores usually collect them. Mine has a box that goes to the Nike program that turns them into playground equipment. My last 4 pairs went to a collection at my PT for http://www.soles4souls.org/

My running store collects them and sends them to people in Costa Rica. I'm sure there are similar programs available other places.

Thanks for the replies. I found out that a local running room gives them to charities in town. Appreciate your help as always.
