From Hal Higdon: The BAA announced today that for 2012, the Boston Marathon will switch to a 3-day event. Saturday, charity runners only. Sunday, qualified runners only: men under 2:10, women under 2:30. Monday, anyone willing to pay a $1,000 entry fee.

Important: Boston Marathon Announces Surprise Change in Format
In order to avoid shutting down downtown Boston streets during the busy mid-day time period, the BAA has announced that this year's Boston Marathon will begin on Boylston St. and finish in Hopkinton. The BAA noted this will give runners a chance to experience the course in a new way and run the Newton Hill "in the easy direction." All questions about the new course may be directed to 4.1.courseczar@baa.org.
