Forums >Racing>2013 New York City Marathon Thread
Are you training for the 2013 New York City Marathon? If so, this is your thread. Over the next few months, let's talk about our training for the marathon and give one another encouragement as the miles build up and the temperatures rise. We can also put all kinds of useful information about the race that can be hard to find on the website. Finally, we can try to meet up on race weekend/day and prove we exist in real life.
Happy training everyone! Best of luck on November 3rd!

I'm in under the 2012-sucker clause.
Though, I find it disturbing that NYRR keeps sending me "Last chance to use your guaranteed entry!" emails.
2021 Goals: 50mpw 'cause there's nothing else to do
If people are interested, we could make this a training group/information thread. I wouldn't mind maintaining it.
I hope you guys do. I'll enjoy watching everyone's progress and then kicking NYCM's ass!
Just because I don't know better -- and am a glutton for punishment -- this one is on my "to do" list. I deferred in 2011 due to injury then passed up my 2012 entry (thankful about that) and then was fortunate to re-qualify this year. I'm thinking perhaps 2014. A long way out, I know.
Thanks for the reminder! I put my name in but don't expect to get in. I was surprised I got it on my second try in 2011. Would love to go back.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

I'm in. I am local and took advantage of the 9+1 program to qualify. This will be my first marathon.

I'm in. I was supposed to run last year, but you know that story.

I registered in 2011, 2012, 2013.....
If my lottery pick gets denied, then I will be running it in 2014 under the guaranteed entry 'three strikes" program in its last year of availability as an option to get in. (2014).
I actually hope I do NOT get picked in 2013 so that I can then run it in 2014. I am doing the JFK 50 Miler this year near the same date, so if I actually got lucky and my lottery # picked for the NYC Marathon for 2013, I am screwed because I would not be able to run it this year. SO here's to hoping that I do NOT get picked by the lottery for the 2013 race !
($h1t, I just jinxed it probably...) :-)

The two races are actually about 3 weeks apart. No reason you couldn't run them both. Is your training for JFK going to be so different than serious marathon training any way? Plus even with a hard effort at NYC you have a couple weeks to start your taper for JFK immediately after NYC.
I actually think getting into NYC would be great for you.

Hasher is right.
I am in between hoping I get in and hoping I don't. I want to do Philly too so one way or another, I need to sign up for one today!
So far, no email....
I'm in the lottery, I will be running it in 2014, if I don't get in. I was wondering if anyone has checked the NYRR page yet, or has heard anything. When I go to my page it says on one page that I'm registered to run 2013 NYC Marathon, but on my status page it says "In drawing". Is this same for everyone?

PR:
Half: 1:48 (March 3rd, 2013)
Full: 4:05:40 (March 17th, 2013)
2013/2014 Goals:
Sub-4:00 hour Marathon
Sub- 125 poundsSub- 1:45 hour half.
I applied as a time qualifier and found out I got in about 1 1/2 hours ago. Noon Mountain Time. The acceptance on the My NYRR page showed up about 10 minutes before the email
Good luck everyone.
Well, what are the odds, I'm in!
No email yet and no showing on the NYRR page but they already charged me.
I think they are announcing it alphabetically. I noticed on their facebook page that some lottery guy announced 3 hours ago he was in, his last name started with an F, another person announced 2 hours ago, she was in, and her last name was with an M. Damaris found out just now, her last name starts with an R.
A guy by the last name of Whitaker posted 2 hours ago that he got in. But making it alphabetically makes sense, so I'm not sure.
Good luck, Jodi!!!!
