hammer toe advice (Read 509 times)

I've just realized that I have a hammer toe! I've had it for quite a while, but did not connect it w/ a "name." It does not seem to bother me, other than it looks weird. Dead While I'm not looking for problems, after visiting my only doctor (the internet) the forecast seems gloomy. Anyone out there who has had one for a long time w/ no problems? I guess what I want to know is, do I need to get one of those corrector thingys or just not worry about it? BTW, I'm 58, run about 15-20 mpw and am currently training for a 1/2 m in april. I have NEVER worn tight, ill-fitting shoes (ok, maybe to church once a week).

If it isn't "broke" then don't fix it. I've had a hammer toe since birth. It bothered me a little in my teens when running, but because I was growing, DRs didn't want to mess with it. Once I stopped growing, it stopped bothering me. The only time I even know I have it is when I am barefoot and someone says eeeeeuweee, where is your toe?

I've had "hammer toes" on my right foot since childhood. I've been running now for 4 years (I'm 61). No problems at all, other than just one of them rubs the top part of my shoe sometimes, which could lead to a blister. So, I simply put a bandaid on that toe for any runs longer than 6 miles, and that works fine! Big grin (I don't need special shoes/orthotics - just regular neutral cushioned running shoes for my high arches). Bill MTA: I just ran my very first HM last week with no problems or blisters. Enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. Enjoy yours in April!! Cool

I've had a hammer toe pretty much all my life. As long as I keep the nail short it does not bother me. It's sort of my cue to go get a manicure Big grin Like slosh said "don't fix what ain't broke".
