More miles than degrees club (Read 4509 times)

I had a few last year I didn't log... 314 miles in ~90 degrees, 153 miles in ~85 degrees, and 109 miles in ~70 degrees. OK, those are approximate highs during the races.

eek. I've no desire to be an ultra runner. Yuck. I did the simple 10 miles in 5F today. Wasn't bad.

    1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

I find 5 can be OK if you don't have much wind.  Anything over 5 mph, though, and it can feel bitterly cold.  Congrats on the run.

Most ultrarunners have no desire to run 314 miles. Or 153. Or even 109.

Most ultrarunners would rather go some 30 miles and eat junk every hour along the way. Mud is a plus.

I've found trail races that have an ultra option are awesome. I get to race something like 5-15 miles on trail, get muddy, have fun and then sit around drinking beer and eating food while I wait for the crazies to finish.

Thanks Fred, it was windy enough (windchill -12) but I found my goretex vest and that thing is splendid. My real beef with these days is that it takes me 20 minutes to get ready.

15 in 11 today. Not much wind so actually felt comfortable. Might also have been the hand warmers in my mitts!

20 miles / 15 degrees today.  Temps weren’t as bad as snow

I saw today's morning temp would be 5º, so I thought I might get in a more-miles-than-degrees run.  Then I saw the wind chill of -13º and decided I'd pass.  I'll run later today, when it's warmer.

ETA:  sun came up, wind died down, I ran 8 miles in 7º that felt like -9º. Left hand is still a bit cold and fingers are stiff while typing, but it was worth it.

I think the only people we have in the Southern Hemisphere are relatively warm-weathered friends. So I’ll still count it. It’s funny I thought about saying “in the northern hemisphere” but because of that I didn’t.

If anyone runs a 100 miler this summer, they automatically are more brave than those of us who run in single digit temperatures. That’s why I want to see it!

I’ll be sure to push this thread starting this summer.

Well, that kind of mileage just isn't in my future, so winter's the best I can do, so I'm going to count it even if you don't want to.

I'll give it 3/4 credit. I still want the thread pushed when someone actually does it! I forgot about that 314 mile one, that is just insane.

I would argue you have to get it done within 24 hours though for this to count. Of course, totally arbitrary, but I feel like once you sleep, it's a different game (not to downplay that type of ultra, I can't imagine what that takes. No aid stations and no pacers?).
