BTW, very late response, but Shoe Reviews (2022) - DOCTORS OF RUNNING is my favorite.

Other ones that a lot of people go to are Road Trail Run and Believe in the Run.  Or you can just hit up the "Running Shoe Geeks" groups on Reddit or Facebook.

    Excellent.  Thanks.

JMac - With the "Z goal" joke already out in the open I felt safe enough to make that little comment.

      Hermosa, Coach, - Nice weeks.

      Fishy - Whoa.

Ace - Too bad about the Achilles issue. I'd think that so long as you can run on it without getting to that "pain" portion (or run/walking if that lets you go longer/further) you'll be making good progress back.

Now we're getting closer to how I like me weeks to look! Interestingly enough, the highlight of this was the 1 miler immediately after my LR. DW asked me if I was too tired after the run to take the pup out for an easy run and my middle daughter (7) invited herself along - she actually just got dressed for it immediately upon hearing that I was going out. She ran the entire distance without stopping, which I'm pretty sure is the farthest she's ever run continuously before. She kinda wanted to stop going up an incline ~.15mi from the house but I talked her into it by saying "don't stop, you're almost to the top", then followed that with "well now it's just super flat to the house", which worked until she could actually see the house and took off on her own.

This week will be a bit of a planned step back in mileage/intensity ahead of the weekend, which also works as a mini-taper for a 20k trail race this Saturday. This will be my second time on trails, and maybe 3x as far on trails as ever before. What could go wrong, huh?

Hermosa: I agree with Fishy’s comment. Envious of the paces starting with 5. Hoping to get there. Great week!

Fishy: Great mileage and good luck on the race.

Ace: Hopefully everything clears up with the Achilles.

DW: You said the cortisone shot might improve things. Just curious, what exactly would it be improving?

Keen: Nice week. Is your Wednesday work out out of the Pfitzinger half marathon plan?

Keira: I really do believe that she is clean, not sure why, more of a gut feeling.

          My week:

          55.2 miles

          M - 6 miles @ 9:06

          T - 9 miles @ 8:35 w/ 2 mile LT @ 6:44 on TM

          W - 7 miles @ 8:53

          T - 7 miles @ 8:48

          F - 7 miles @ 8:18 w/ 4xk in 4:08 (LT) on TM

          S - 7 miles @ 8:34

          S - 12.2 miles @ 8:16

Had a sore/tight Achilles all week which seems to have been resolved through a bit of extra stretching and icing. This seems to always get aggravated when building back mileage after some time off.

Got the feeling that I’m back in the groove of running every day and it feels great to be training normally again. This week I’ll increase mileage to 60 and extend both workouts out to 3 miles and 5 reps, respectively

JHud - That workout might or might not have been Pfitz-inspired, I don't know. My coach dropped it into my plan, building on the previous week's 18min + 14min session (same 3 min rest).

                RIP Milkman

Keen - I don't remember you having a dog for some reason. Is this new, is my memory terrible, or do you just not talk about the dog a lot?

JHud - what goals do you want on the front page?

Darkwave - did you sign up for the 4M run? I just did a few days ago and now it's sold out. Also good to hear you're getting another opinion here on the your health.

Hermosa - interesting you have a strides pace! Totally by feel for me.

Coach - smart on the long runs having a partner. Especially as the weather warms up, it's just so easy to bail on them with a few miles to go because you're thirsty and tired.

Fishy - getting into the heavy stuff already with JD! Those 1K repeats are brutal as part of the long run. I find I need to be way further into the cycle before I can complete that workout. His I pace can sometimes feel like a sprint when you're just starting your cycle, even adjusted for fitness.

Ace - sorry to hear about your Achilles, it seems like a very tough area to heal.

I don't have much of a week to post except that I finally did a quality day on Sunday with 20x200. Still a big fan of getting in 200/400s this far in advance of a marathon to build up leg strength and efficiency. Given this was my first quality day since October, my legs feel like I ran a race yesterday (in fact I'm more than a usual 5K). But boy do I miss that feeling: a workout well done.

Should be another week of all easy running this week

JMac - The dog is relatively new - since August or so, I think - and I haven't mentioned her much.

Good job on the workout, and I bet that did do a number on your legs since you haven't done anything like that in so long. There are certainly worse things than an easy week (like a zero running week), but you must be ready to get back to regular speedwork. I do hope that comes back for you soon.

My treadmill allows me to program three paces -- Recovery, Easy and Fast.

I just program the fast to whatever I want it to get to quickly....

Hermosa - the thought of doing strides on a treadmill makes me wobbly. I can't imagine running that fast on one. Then again, I can't imagine anything really faster than tempo pace, which feels like sprinting to me on the treadmill.

Good to see a thriving thread.  I’ve got some catching up to do.

And while people focus on her age, I don't think late 30s is too old to be running the times she's running.

Yep, take age out the equation. There’s two weeks difference between Keira & Eliud. In terms of training age, if that’s a thing, she’s a young 37. I see absolutely no reason she couldn’t be a better athlete than at 24.  Perhaps the missing link is the training she’s done on the muscle between her ears. Sure, mindset doesn’t get you faster in itself but could make a big difference if she’s now doing better at a bunch of the one percenters. She would have had to rebuild volume starting early 2018. To get steady improvement over the course of 3 years accumulated, nothing outstanding about that. The biggest leap appears to me 2 years later, going from 2:35 Berlin to the 1:10 half four months later in Houston. Until proven otherwise I’m happy with head in sand, choosing to be inspired.

Our holiday and my running was rudely interrupted when all 3 kids tested positive. Here, at the moment, that means 7 days of home prison. For the first time in life I wished I had a treadmill. Three sessions jumping rope was the best I could come up with. When I was free to run again I went and overdid it with a 12 miler. Was a bit surprised how trashed the legs were after only one week off.

Ace Man I hope you can get the ankle sorted out for a proper race weekend. Crazy to see how much faster you've become since 2018 or 19 when you joined up and started chasing that sub 3. Heck I think I looked at your old 2:57 time as a bar of "damn, I wish I could be that fast" and then you dropped a 2:53.
