2022 Advanced Racing Thread (Read 497 times)

It is just so hard to rally in the marathon when things go a little south. You basically can only do it for a cramp that goes away or stomach issues. If it's muscular fatigue, it's nearly impossible.

Yep. Literally if your life depended on it, you could not run any faster.

    Congrats marathoner Steve!

Thanks all. Couldn’t really have been a bigger disaster. Started feeling cramp and almost pulled out at 27km when I saw my mate because I knew what was about to happen. But I shuffled home, with about 5 stops for excruciating cramp. Energy felt fine, I just couldn’t move my legs without cramp. Absolutely gutted. I’m having beers now

Well done on getting to the finish Steve!  Sorry the body didn't co-operate.

In contrast, I had a blinder. If there's a category for old, fat guys who have averaged 20 mile a week for the last 12 months... I'd be right up there.

Steve major congratulations. Finishing your first is hard, and I tried to explain it to a friend who was training for his first.  Mine was a 3:56 with a death March. Pretty sure the last 5k was 30 minutes.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Cal - tough week for sure. I’m not at all surprised that Mikkey is a gentleman. I think you did right to have a nice relaxing evening, that was much needed for your mental health.

I have met 3 other forumites (ThisIsNotSam, Rune and Marco) and they were all incredibly nice.

Kudos to you for being a handy man and trying to fix the water heater. I'd have hired a contractor.

Marby - well done represent us pudgy folk there!

Steve - Sorry it didn’t go your way and welcome to the club! Now you understand why I told you to ignore the trolls.

I’m thinking you probably crossed the red line at some point in your training, likely that 39k run and reached the peak too early.

me - A nice week with some nice workouts. I still have some fatigue from the 10k and today's recovery was a slog.

I paid a visit to a PT on Thursday and it helped a bit with my left inner quad niggle, but I sense it's still there ready to tackle me at any time. Today I avoided the hills as much as possible and played it very safe.

                  RIP Milkman

Steve - sorry to hear it was cramps. The debate of "what could I have done differenly" is for another time. Having the energy but physically unable to get past the cramps is terrible. I'm sorry this is now something you have to deal with.

It looks like Cal is off to a good start - on 2:57 pace. I'll do my best to keep up the tracking but I will be driving soon so it'll be tough.

Cal's ability to pace is shocking. 30k in 2h06, he's been running exactly 4:13 per km ever since he crossed the 10k mark.

The weather is not his friend right now it seems it's 16C/60F in London and warming up, I hope he can hold on...
