    JMac - That sucks, hope it comes right asap.  You've had such a killer cycle that I think if you have an extended taper and miss a couple of long runs/workouts, you can still smash this race.  I had dry needling on a hamstring a few years ago and it came right quickly, although I've not found specific proof that it wouldn't have anyway.

    Mikkey - Thanks - it's hard to think that I will not try and have a good marathon at some point.  I'm sticking with the rule of letting it settle before making plans though.  The best race for me to do would be Christchurch given it removes the travel and is a fast and flat course.  The reschedule to April means I won't be doing it in 2023 though, I'd need to start up a cycle in December.

    mmerkle - Yep, I did make some war analogies during the race too.  There's definitely the desire to get that "good" marathon.

    Flavio - Again showing you're the benchmark for strength in here.  I just looked at my weekly for last week (which I'm not posting here) and your tool gives me 3:27 for the race - it uses "Moving time" as the final time?  It definitely looks better this way.

    Caitlin - Thanks - yeah, I'm thinking I'll probably try and mix things up a bit for a while but not sure exactly how yet.

    Fishy - You're right, I still have way more fitness than before and it gives me confidence about having a crack at a sub 40 10km and half PR over the next 6 months.

    Mark, piwi - all great words and good points.  I feel a bit better already today now that I'm home and finally had a big sleep.  That muscle strain I may or may not have imagined is weird.  It definitely felt like "something" early in the race, but post-race it hasn't been an issue.

    Good luck to Ian, Dave and darkwave - Looking forward to hearing how the lead in is going, and tracking the races.

        Flew into Chicago yesterday,very smooth and hassle free flight.

        Booked an Air bnb about 10mins outside the centre as it was a great price,very close to the L so nice and easy moving around.I bought a weekly ticket so I don't need to walk around too much,most of the sightseeing done now,will leave the rest until Monday.

        Been to the start today to make it seem real,looking good.

        Plan tomorrow is a shakeout run in the morning then relax all day.

          Thanks all. Chicago is actually my hometown, born & raised, although I have not lived there since college and have not even visited in ~8 years. So the race is special to me, but I don’t feel the need to do anything touristy while I’m here. I flew in Thursday night, and staying with friends out in the suburbs. Mostly just chilling and seeing some people. I have a hotel near the start/finish on Saturday night, so will head down there in time to hit the expo and dinner. Then it’s business time. I’ve been feeling good and the weather will be perfect. Anything can happen in a marathon, but I’ll have a shot at a good day on Sunday.

            i am currently reading a book in which one of the characters says, "ever heard of D-wave?"

            why yes, i think i have.

            carry on...

              There’s a song on the latest Kings of Leon album called A Wave. ‘What a wave’ is the chorus. Will be playing it for Chicago, maybe some London Calling for Ian and Come as you are for Dave

                Mmerkle - No, I’m not very coordinated or balanced, the regular split squat is already a challenge.

                Jmac - So, my understanding is that when you have an injury the region impacted will be tight and tense.

                Strength training makes muscles more tight and tense, so that would not help with the injury.

                I’d think things that can relax the muscle would help: foam rolling, massage, warm baths.

                Steve - I cannot be the benchmark for strength training LOL, what I described is the equivalent of a runner stating they’re running 15 miles per week.

                OMR - Oh, interesting, it seems Darkwave has been exploring more worlds than only running and equestrianism.

                Good luck to the Chicago bound! May the running gods shine on you.

                    Flavio-Won't that be worse? So yesterday I ran a mile to get breakfast,then ran back,I just paused my watch while I ate as it was just an easy run,will your tool show me running about 20m/km now?

                      Steve - You gotta stop going to the pub during your marathons (then later saying you got the cramps) 😂

                        Also doing a sit rep from Chicago - I flew in yesterday morning.  So far everything has gone smoothly.  Did a shakeout on the Riverwalk, which is apparently where half of tomorrow's race was doing their shakeout.  Now I'm just chilling with Chipotle for the rest of the day.

                        Ian and Dave - I'm going to message you my contact information - I'm staying over Sunday night, and wouldn't mind meeting up post race if it works out (I have several teammates here, so any meet-up may include them as well.).

                        Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

                        And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

                            I guess the thing that keeps us all coming back is that we find joy in the process, sometimes more than the outcome.

                          Just saw this. Definitely agree here. I love the training and logging the miles and the anticipation. Even if the race doesn't go well you should look back on your training and be proud of it Steve. Also best of luck to the everyone running Chicago. I'll be on here watching the commentary during the tracking. I'm not sure how to track everyone lol.

                            Now going to chill for the day.

                              mmerkle - I'm trying to look at it that way but it's hard not to think about all those big training runs and regret that the worst run of the year was on the biggest day.

                              Flavio - Yeah, I think for training moving time makes sense.  Maybe:

                              IF runType == 'Race' Then

                              time = elapsedTime

                              ELSE

                              time = movingTime

                              If you can extract the type of run from the run that is.

                                Started to feel a bit more like a runner again this week.  Suffered through a tempo workout on Wed, but felt good for Saturday's track workout and was finally starting to hit some reasonable paces again.  Didn't pull up too badly on the Sunday long run either.  All in all, it felt like progress both during the week, and compared to last week.  Just need to carry that on for another 4 weeks until the race!
