Longboat - bummer you had to skip it but it sounds like it wasn't meant to be. Zane Robertson currently holds the national record for the marathon for NZ, he shaved 6 seconds or so off the previous time which was set by his twin brother. Ran the second half of the race with a shoelace undone too!
Keen, RP - good luck!
Last week of training for me before the trail half next weekend and last long run out in the forest. I've been testing out the Hoka Tecton X but like some Hoka shoes they just seem to be a bit... clompy, so I think I'm gonna go with the Salomon Pulsar's instead which feel a lot more agile. My goal for this race is simply "don't die" (it has sand dunes, a stream crossing and some savage hills). I've only raced one trail half before which was (a) in the middle of winter and (b) on much better trails, with (c) a lot less hills, so I'm definitely going in with the mindset of respecting the course. It'll be tough, and slow, but it may even be fun.

RP - I totally blanked that you were racing as well. Belated good luck (sorry, really didn't mean to omit you).
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
RP: Sorry, I didn't realize you were also racing! Good luck to you as well!

I’ll not be at CIM racing, or running. Both make me kind of sad. My decision was to put CIM effort into Boston. My original plan was to hang out on the course and cheer on keen with some Strava updates. My kid’s birthday kind ruined it.
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

My bad, I got confused.
Weren’t you going to post your bib number? Got the tracking site set up for a few others already.

Don’t even worry about it. I’ve PR’d the marathon at CIM every year I’ve run it. I STRONGLY considered running it and putting Boston on ‘victory parade’ status. I’m glad I picked what I did since there is a good group aiming for NYC 2024. I also couldn’t find the competitive drive I NEED for marathon training. Maybe next year I’ll run CIM as something less than a PR race.
Mmmm Bop
Keen - You’ve really put in the training and I hope you get the result you deserve. Best of luck! 👍
In other news my hero Tyson Fury smashed another face in last night!

Keen - GO GO GO! You've got it! 💪
Longboat - sorry to hear about the recent troubles, but I'm hoping it was short lived.Valencia is now on my radar, considering today's results (Men's race won in 2h02 and a near world record on the women's race, with Gidey coming in sub 2h17 after bonking hard), it seems like a super fast course. And having a paella before the race just sounds excellent.
Ch17 - Those are impressive numbers for 25 leg press reps, kudos!
Mikkey - Tyson Fury is a very impressive sportsman what with the battles with depression and coming out the other way and fighting at a very high level.
I wanted to ask your personal opinion about this race. It seems fast, near downtown London, in February so it's gonna be cold. I'd be aiming for a PR on the 5k. It could, of course, rain and ruin everything.
Do you have any inside scoop about this race?

Me - This week included some sort of speed on Wednesday, and then today I fought my usual nemesis, the 2h long run. The first few 2h long runs are always hard, I hope to get to a point where I can run for 2h and not be completely spent by the end of it.

Yep, I was following him way before he became world champ and ecstatic that he’s doing so well now as he’s a true warrior and an entertainer!
I get regular emails re Victoria Park but never run the 5k…I might be interested if you’re up for it?
I’m still having problems with my ongoing heel spur and getting more shockwave treatment in the hope that I can start training again for Boston in January! On the plus side I’ve been hitting the gym 5 days a week and stronger than I’ve ever been!
