Half Fanatic 12680
This happened to me for the third time today -- my left foot cramped up precisely at the 13 mile point in a half marathon. It also happened exactly at mile 26 in the NYC marathon last November and at exactly mile 13 of the half marathon run leg of a half ironman triathlon in September.
So I want to know (1) why I am getting foot cramps, and (2) why at the very end of a race? In all of the races, I am getting the cramps at the very end, but after varying amounts of time so this seems weird to me. The courses were very different; one ended downhill, one ended in slight uphill, and one ended on a flat boardwalk, so I can rule out slope and terrain as possible causes.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Just a guess, but I suspect it has to do with changing to more of a forefoot strike when your feet are already very fatigued as you kick for the finish, whether consciously or not.
