I am still here. Running has been ok. I have been putting about 50-60 miles a week. I am starting to up in more trail days. I am working on my base. Right now big runs are making me tired and some what sore. At the same time I don't know how to take it easy. I know things will get easier.

    Keep up the great work.

the final two miles of this REALLY fucking sucked and was ALMOST as bad as the climb on Tahoe Rim Traiil at Diamond peak Ski Resort.  At least I was kind of in shape this day.

I think I've worked out how to get Krash to post.  Talk about a hill that you think is hard so he can tell you it's more like a speed bump

Geez race week is good.  No niggles, no sore legs every time I move.  I could get used to this...I suspect things will be different next week.

This sounds not too bad at all, especially if overcast.

It's 8am, but I don't think there's much choice with sunrise at 7:52am.  It'll be dull light at the start but a 7am start would be pitch black on country roads.  It's June though, if I can't handle the weak sun now...

flavio You are more or less "the short distance guy". Let's throw in Mark too. Y'all have any advice for executing distances in the 3k-5k range? I feel like I have always paced these horribly, and I'd sure love to have a solid 2 mile tomorrow. But I have a feeling it might nend up more of the same.

                Commander Nice week.

I've raced 3k a couple times, which is pretty close to 2 miles.  Sorta like 5k, it's all about finding the line between "this is really hard" and "I might actually die", particularly around the 3rd quarter of the race.  It's hard not to go out too quick in those shorter races, but try not to, and then really button it down through the middle and push through the pain.

That's actually pretty early for a winter race down your way.  Probably a good thing in light of the temps.

Good luck, not that luck really comes into it with the amount of work that you've got in the bag for this one.

Flavio - Yep, you're right.  I actually have a big uni assignment due next Friday and I've been racing to get as much done as possible before the race so I don't have too much to do afterwards.  It's a good distraction, the week has gone so fast.  I almost feel like maybe I haven't thought about the race enough but that's silly, as if obsessing all week would be better.

Steve Go get it. You know exactly what to do. Don't think too much about anything, especially the past. The past isn't now. I too have noticed that academics and running can weirdly complement each other sometimes. But also sometimes they get in each other's way a bit.

                            Pain is my friend

You might be right. I am not a fan of the crazy steep stuff. I do it to get somewhere. Most peaks in Utah, you will need to do 3-5k of vert climbing to get to the top. I am waiting for the snow to melt. I love hills. I am sick like that. Ultras is what I know. I know some about the shorter stuff. I was very much a roadie for 15+ years before switching to ultras. I had fun pushing to get that sub 3 marathon. Now the goal is sub 24 hour 100 milers. Is has the same prestige as sub 3 marathon. Maybe next year I will work on a sub 3 marathon. If I do you will be the first to know.

I got in about 8k vert this last week over 3 different runs. Amazing fun trail runs.

Good luck on your race Steve. You got this.
