Well, thanks for the encouragement. I didn’t expect that. Will definitely continue my training, as I quite like the idea of working towards a Moose Mug. Will absolutely be ‘jogging on’!

Not a bad week.  Tough 400's workout on Thursday and I was still feeling it a couple days later.  Enjoyed my long run this morning though, I've mixed up the routes a little bit lately and today was hillier than normal.  There's a particular weird kind of joy that comes through slogging up some unfamiliar hills in the dark at 6am in winter.

Next week is the last week of building up, then a recovery week.

I've learned this week about this thing called a Foot Drop, where you randomly drag the tip of one of your feet on the ground when walking or running, and that it can lead to tripping and falling. Interesting thing...

Mark - Damn 370m in elevation gain, some real hills in there.

                      me - Interesting week.

The coach is switching my routine to a 9 day cycle (which I believe is what WCRunner users). Basically 7 workouts every 3 weeks.

The aim is to improve my recovery, which is lacking.

He also agreed that the 16 mile trail race wrecked my training.

And he said that I was running too many anaerobic workouts, gotta calm down a bit after 40, oops!

Oh yeah, on my last day before the new coach I ran an 800m time trial and got a bit better, 2:34 with splits of 35/37/41/41 .

I've found an interesting masters track meet in London at the end of August, so I've written to the organizers to see if I can participate. That would match my needs perfectly.

My plan now is to focus on the 800 until end of August, then start working to tackle my 5k and 10k PRs later in the year.

Mark Your run titles this week are great. Really made me smile.

Commander I see what you mean, but it's hard to say. I think there is often an extent to which you improve orstay the same just by continuing to run, not to mention the added power you now no doubt have. I say jump in a 5k and see what happens. I'd be surprised if you're that far from 18 or sub 18 (on a good day of course).

Mickjogger Maybe try getting a light breakfast in a couple hours before a 2 + hour long run. In my experience, being fasted is fine for 90 minutes or less, but after that it gets pretty rough. I don't at all feel the need to brag about running fasted for 2 hours. I'd rather crush the workout and be "comfortable" doing it. Training needs to be sustainable. If every 2 hour LR is miserable, is that sustainable?

Had the Hashawa XC race this week. Even though it FELT like I was going to beat last years time (18:56), I was off by 40 seconds. I wasn't alone though, as a handful of people I spoke to also had a slow day. I'm not really upset about it. The 2 mile clearly shows that my fitness is better than it was last year. Ran a social run Saturday where I was helping pace two colleagues. One of them started having some knee and calf issues so the last two miles were a walk. I think the insanely slow miles helped me recover though, because Hashawa left my solei mad sore.

Flavio - I'm being totally pedantic and legal geeky, but I don't think GDPR applies to this site, since the site is not targeting or recruiting European users (perhaps I'm mistaken about that?)

As for foot drop - yup, that's a thing.  Doesn't mix well with spikes.

MArky_Mark - runners have such a weird perception of "fun" (running up hills in the dark).

Merkle - +100 on your breakfast comments.  Plus, if you're not going to run your marathon fasted, then you shouldn't run your long runs fasted, IMHO.  Better to practice eating before, so you know exactly what will work on race day.

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

                            Mother of Cats

I posted a week with comments and it ate it.  So here's my week without comment.

56 miles of running, 9 "miles" pool-running, and 500 yards swimming.
                              M: 9 "miles" pool-running and streaming yoga.
T: 9 miles very easy (10:10) on trails and streaming yoga.
W: 9.5 miles on the track, including a tempo workout of 3700m, 3200m in 16:40 (7:19/7:07/2:14) and 13:45 (6:58/6:47) with 2 minutes recovery in between (intended to be 4 miles continuous but my shoe came undone). Followed with leg strengthwork. Sports massage in evening.
Th: 10.5 miles very easy (9:29) in the morning; streaming pilates in the evening.
F: 7 miles on the track, including drills and some 200s (50-51 seconds) and 100s (24-25 seconds).
Sa: 9.5 miles, with a workout of 8x3 minutes on, 3 minutes off around the Georgetown waterfront. The on part was focused on picking up the pace while staying completely relaxed and smooth. Followed with streaming pilates.
Su: 10.5 miles very easy (9:32) followed by drills and 500 yards swimming.

Yeah, I figured. If the law did apply the site owner would have to adjust years ago and he'd probably sooner geo-block European Union users than comply (AFAIK the law is a PITA).

Either way, it turns out when you delete an account on this site, it does not really delete or disable it, it just logs you out.

So you can log back in again 😎 (I'm sure Steve and Watson will chuckle at this)

So let's just say that I found an alternative way to clear my post history.

Mikkey - I could go on a rant about internet freedom and the right to be forgotten, but reality is that the fact I can't delete my posts triggers my OCD 😂
