My 10k and half are pretty close to those times…but the bottom line is that I’ve never specifically trained for a race less than a marathon and those PRs are from tune up races. I’m pretty sure I could’ve got under 1:20 for a half if I was really focused on that distance!

      5k - 17:53 (4/19)   10k - 37:53 (11/18)   Half - 1:23:18 (4/19)   Full - 2:50:43 (4/19)

So what you're saying is some people prefer to focus on one distance over others?

Yeah just pointing out that I’ve never focused on shorter distances.

You made out that my 5k PR is weak and I explained why it’s not faster because I never focused on shorter distance training.

All my PRs 5k/10k/half/marathon are all over 80%

Do you know who I am?

Funny you should say that considering what you said about my marathon times.

             2024 Races:

                  03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles

                  05/11 - D3 50K, 9:11:09
                  06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour, 35.82 miles
                  10/12 - Hainesport 12-Hour

I’m not sure what your point is. My shorter distance PRs are fairly in line with my marathon PR. 🤷‍♂️

I’m not convinced Mikkey would even make it into the bar. He strikes me as the sort of guy who would be denied entry for being too drunk, then would be arguing with the doorman running the “don’t you know who I am” line.

This seems ironic considering you were the one that kicked this all off making attacks about races I ran years ago 😂

Feel free to keep embarrassing yourself though.

                  RIP Milkman

Flavio this is why you can’t delete your account. We would have lost both your glorious memes and your terrible puns.

You got any good idioms from your travels around the world? I enjoy ones from other countries that seem to make absolutely no sense when they’re translated into English. Even the ones in English, sometimes you need to look up their origins to understand what it means, even if you’ve used the phrase a hundred times in your life. I love the phrase “getting your/my goat” as a way to describe something that annoys you, yet nobody is 100% sure where it came from.

Mmerkle - ridiculous to say you have no talent. There’s just something that isn’t clicking in the marathon for you, which has been the theme of this thread for a year+. I feel like Fishy is the best racer at that distance at the moment. We all need his advice.

Speaking of marathons, I’m still signed up for NYC and finally getting back into training. I’m not going to toe the line though unless I think there’s a legitimate chance of me breaking 2:55 since that is the qualifying time for next year. At the moment, I think that’s unlikely given I’ve run about 200 miles over the last year, so I probably will defer to next year and instead just work on building my mileage back up over the next 15 months.

Here are my age-graded 80% target times for this year:

                      2024 (53才) 80%

                      5km - 18:52

                      10k - 38:31

                      Half - 1:23:37

                      Full - 2:56:05

Will be interesting to see how close I can get to those.

                        Mother of Cats

Arguably off topic, but here's my race report (finally) from last week's 10K.

Well, I'm TRYING to run...: Race Report: Boston 10K, June 23, 2024 (wellimtryingtorun.blogspot.com)

I need to figure out what my 80% times are, now that I'm 50.  I know last year I was clicking in at 78-79% for the longer distance races (definitely not the shorter ones).

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

Haha - that’s what this thread has come to!

Congrats on that result (I won’t spoil it for others)!!

JMac/Mikkey Thanks for the vote of confidence. Luckily I still have some years to work with here. I hope to have a wicked peak in my mid to late 30s.

darkwave Nice job on the 10k, but I'm especially interested in the 800 and 1500 you just did. How are the faster paces feeling? If I remember correctly, the paces you just ran for those were a struggle not too long ago. Looking forward to the reports.
