On the 16th March next year you have a choice of 3 marathons.

    LA, Barcelona or Rome.

Which one would you choose and why…would the decision be more about a possible PR or the destination?

First reaction is Barcelona, since it’s the one I’ve never been to. And according to the FindMyMarathon.com race time converter, it’s also the fastest of the three. So that’s a win-win.

Thanks for your input, Barcelona was my first sub 3 marathon…but it was one of my worst destination marathons as I didn’t like the city.

I’m intrigued about LA… is it another state that is as fucked up as SF?

I’ve never been too interested in LA mainly because of the race itself—it’s a bit hilly and it can get warm. I’ve been there many times, so wouldn’t do it for the destination. LA and SF are both cities in the state of California but are very different. I can’t say whether or not you’d like it, because I don’t really know you, or what you don’t like about SF or Barcelona. Fucked up is always in the eye of the beholder.

When I was originally planning to run CIM last year and stay at SF, the OP from last year was very scathing about SF.

Of course I always make my own decisions, but it’s also good to hear what others have got to say!

Not sure about the LA marathon, but both Barcelona and Roma are on hot days, but Roma is probably the more scenic.
Barcelona has a beach in town though which is nice.

Food will be better in Roma by a huge margin.

Roma (and all of Italy) requires you to send over a specific form signed by your heart doctor stating you're fit to race, which is annoying.
Have you been to Roma before? If not, I highly recommend the Musei Vaticani in case you like looking at beautiful art (not this modern abstract crap).
When I was there last, I filmed my run with the GoPro, going from the Piazza San Pietro all the way to Piazza Navona.

Thanks for posting the youtube film, that looked great!  No I’ve never been to Italy before but definitely plan to!  I’m not a pasta eater but I love proper authentic pizza!

Iirc I had to get a dr certificate when I ran Paris. Just more pointless bullshit. 🀦🏻

I’m available as a scarecrow now and charging a very reasonable rate of £20 per hour.

If anyone is truly up for the challenge of winning a Moose Mug then I’ll post the latest image of myself as it’s….my wife nearly collapsed laughing  Smile

Another reasonable week in the bag. Really good track workout on Thursday, and this morning I took on a hill I've always wanted to tackle but it's on a relatively busy open road that, frankly, wouldn't be safe to attempt at a busier time (I ran it in the dark before dawn on a Sunday morning wearing a headlamp and lights). It's 2km at around a 6% grade, one of those nice long climbs where you can try and lock a rhythm in.  Turned out the only person faster than me up there (on Strava) was Rio 1500m Olympian Hamish Carson, so that was pretty good company to be in - albeit I don't think it's a very popular running route because of the traffic that's normally there (in third was my clubmate Mike lol).

I have been working to detox from my forum addiction and this is only the 4th time I'm accessing this forum this week.

I guess it helps that posting has slowed to a crawl.

I guess our lovely board is sadly getting eaten by Tiktok and Whatsapp. That would explain why the speedy beasts are no longer posting here (except Mark, of course), the younger speedy beasts are probably twerking on Tiktok.

Long text form is a dying art. That movie idiocracy was spot on!

Interesting week. Coach broke the pattern by having just one easy day between last Saturday's workout and this Monday's.

Coach has been focusing a bit on lactate tolerance for that very important last third of the 800m race.

Next week I have an 800m time trial. The goal will be to beat my current PR of 2:31.7.

The plan is to jog to the track, then do one lap at HMP, one lap easy, one lap at 10K, one lap easy with surges, then one lap easy.

The stop at the start line and GO!

Unfortunately I have not yet been able to find any 800m race to do in August. In large part because there's the Olympics in early August, then the world master athletics champs later in the month.

I did spot a potential race near London, but it's hard to justify a trip to London just for the weekend.

I'll keep trying to find a local race. I'm even considering hiring paid pacers. With pacers we can call my time trial a proper race hehe.

Another week plugging away. I have a 5k next Saturday and will be pacing a marathon in 3 weeks, so I’ve been doing VO2max intervals mid-week and long steady runs on the weekend. For my workout I did 4x1200, which I also did last week but wanted to see if I could run it better. My issue is often getting off to a slow start in the early reps before finally being able to hit pace. I’m targeting around 6:15-6:20/mi. Last week I ran 6:49, 6:38, 6:22, 6:19. Eventually got there but it took a while. This week I hit it right from the start, but couldn’t quite hang on—6:19, 6:21, 6:24, 6:27. On average better I guess, but I don’t know that it bodes too well for holding 6:15-6:20 for a full 5k. We’ll see what happens. My bigger concern is the weather, since it starts at 9 AM so could get warm.

Today I hit a lifetime total of 30,000 miles, over the course of 12 years of logging.
