Odd knee pain (Read 246 times)

Bottle Opener

I've been trying to figure out what is wrong with my right knee for a few weeks now. The pain is not at the top or bottom of the knee, so not runner's knee or jumper's knee.  It is right across the middle of the knee cap where there isn't really anything the tendons are all on the top or bottom connecting the patella to the shin and the femur.  There feels almost like there is a rubber band (a very sore rubber band) running horizontally across my knee cap.  I can push my finger down on it and wiggle it around, which causes some discomfort but not really any pain until i start running on it.

I've been running for years and this is the first time I've felt anything like this.  Anyone have any thoughts?  The only thing I can think of at this point is some weird fluid formation, or an irritation of the underside of the skin (is that even possible?)

Just a thought; are you running in long pants or with anything over your knees? I've always gotten minor knee pains from running or cycling in long tights - my kneecaps don't like anything touching them when they're in motion and it causes some kind of irritation in or underneath the patella.

I've been wearing tapered running pants the last few weeks, but they aren't tight over my knee.  Worth doing a few runs on the treadmill in shorts to find out to find out though.  We just got a food of snow so I won't be running outside in shorts for awhile.
