Garmin Forerunner 220 vs 25 (Read 156 times)

After 8 years of trusty service by my 405, it will now only hold an hour or less of battery life.

I have an REI gift card and they are having a sale coming up this week, so I am planning on a new GPS watch.

i was looking at both the Forerunner 220 and the 25.  I see lots of posts about the 220, but searched and don't see much about the 25.  Can anyone comment on those units.... good, bad, ugly?  My goal is to spend about $200 and I don't need many features......time, distance, pace is about all I use.

if anyone has a non-Garmin suggestion of a unit that will last and provide basic features and is reliable.......I am all ears.

    Thanks!!!!!

Keep the running and fitness up and keep the weight from coming back.

DC Rainmaker is always the place to go first.

The 225 is basically the 220 with built-in heart rate monitor & activity tracking. I think if you don't use a HRM, the 220 should do just fine.

MTA: I assumed you were referring to the 225, because I had never heard of a 25. But I guess there is one -- basically the 10/15 with bluetooth.

      Mmmmm...beer

I went from the FR10 to the 220 and love it.  Part of me wishes I had waited for the 225.  I didn't get the HR strap with the 220, because I knew I didn't want to wear it, but having it built in to the 225 would be cool.

          To clarify......when I say 25, I don't mean 225.  There is a Forerunner 25.  See it here..... https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/running/forerunner-25/prod164366.html

Any direct feedback back on the FR 25 would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the comparison from Rainmaker.  My Forerunner 10 is finally taking a dump so I just ordered the 220.  Seems for what you're looking for, and me, the 220 is worth the extra money.  Road Runner Sports has a deal right now for $199, $179 if your VIP.

I cant add anything to this discussion, but if you contact Garmin directly you can get some $$$$$ for your old watch.

So you might want to either purchase it directly or at least contact Garmin and ask about their trade in program before you make a move..

I contacted Garmin recently about my dead 405CX. They said..

"You can upgrade to a new unit with better/more features than your current model. You would trade-in your Forerunner 405CX and you would receive 20% off the retail price of the new unit. Your new device would have our standard one year warranty. (Currently the vivofit 2, epix, Forerunner 225, Edge 20, Edge 25, and Edge 520 are not eligible for the upgrade program)"

Garmin 220 Certified Refurbished with one year warranty for $164.99 from amazon

Update, just emailed them asking if the 20% off good for Refurbished 220. I doubt it though, I don't even see any refurbished product on garmin.com.

Update, no 20% off on refurbished.

Thanks, everyone!!!  I had previously seen the VERY EXTENSIVE DC Rainmaker product reviews, but hadn't seen the product comparison feature on that website.  Thanks slsadler1015 for tipping me off to that........what a super and powerful feature.

                      Cheers!

A friend of mine has the M400 and had to return it because the micro-USB port under the watch would not work anymore. He tried with multiple cables. Polar replaced it, but he's afraid it might happen again,

                        Just saying.

The m400 is a good enough watch but my fr10 was more accurate. Also, the micro USB port  stopped working and I am in the process of getting it fixed right now.
