Unnecessary warning signs (Read 2819 times)

I've got a fever...

Ok, this one is actually not funny.  This is at the top of Nevada Falls in Yosemite.  I remember seeing this sign on the climb up to the top of Half Dome -- Nevada Falls is a popular stopping point on that trail.  I always found the warning rather harrowing in its simplicity and directness  -- If you go over the fall, you will die.

On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

    Menace to Sobriety

This is a completely necessary piece of info, but I think it is very funny.

Want to register for Sunday's Omaha Marathon and wait until the last second?  No problem, but you better write this down.

Registration for the Omaha Marathon ends "Friday, September 24, 2010 @ 3:53 PM"

So don't wait until 3:54 or you will be SOL.

      3:53?

I bet nearly everyone remembered exactly when registration ended. Sometimes that sort of thing is a memory aid. It's much easier to remember 3:53 than 4:00(or was it 5:00?).

      Back to topic:

Janie, today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go f*** himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.

One of the stupider things I did when I was younger: I worked as a camp counselor in the Poconos one summer.  On my "day" off  (measured breakfast to breakfast), a female counselor and I spent the day together, culminating in our sleeping on a rock in the middle (width-wise) of the local waterfalls that night.  Right at the edge of the top fall.  Good fun at the time, but in retrospect, maybe it wasn't the brightest idea.

Yeah, some people schedule meetings like that, for that reason.

If you go over the fall, you will die.

I have to admire the restraint and lack of "!" on the end of it.

It is much, MUCH more effective as a simple statement.

            Imminent Catastrophe

This is what I wear on trail runs. In this case, it IS necessary.

This just arrived in my work inbox:

Please note, that to call 911 it will be necessary to access an outside line.  Therefore the number you dial will be 9-911 for emergency services.
PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS.  IT IS ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES.

Never mind that we've had to dial 9 for an outside line for our entire career here.

does dialing 0 there just page out to the resident doctor? You!

                        Seriously? Frogs?

Actually, Professor, when you drive over frog, and even more so if there are more than one, it gets rather slippery and can be quite dangerous.

I was in a small town in central Washington called Moses Lake.  They had one of the longest run-way in the country where Japan Air Line practiced touch-and-go with 747--it can be quite spectacular and, in the evening, particularly in the summer, at the end of the run-way is quite a good place for a date!! ;o)  At any rate, during the summer, some rattle snakes would come out and lay down on the runway and it could get quite dangerous--not for a possibility of people getting bitten but because it gets quite greasy and slippery.

This must have been almost 10 years ago but, right before the start of Grandma's Marathon, they had a terrible thunder storm and, after the rain stopped, swarm of earth warms came out and, besides being gross, it got quite slippery for runners to run on.  I remember they didn't quite cancelled the race but they delayed the start a few hours.

Considering that, this sign may not be as "unnecessary" as it may appear.

Maybe that explains the sign in my town that states 'Turtle Crossing May-Sept'

There was one I ignored today.  Going down the steps towards a part of the trails, there was a sign stating that the stairs were closed in the winter since they weren't plowed.  If you looked, tho, the snow on the steps was hard-packed due to people using them anyhow. Joking
