FDA: Pfizer Covid vaccine data fits with guidance on emergency authorization | Coronavirus | The Guardian

US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) staff said on Tuesday that data on Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine was in line with its guidance on emergency use authorization, raising hopes it could soon be available to Americans aged 16 and above.

The comments were made in documents released ahead of Thursday’s meeting of outside experts to discuss whether the vaccine developed by Pfizer with German pharmaceutical partner BioNTech should be authorized for emergency use in America.

Pfizer cleared the latest hurdle in the race to get its Covid-19 vaccine approved for emergency use, as FDA documents did not raise any new issues about its safety or efficacy.

The documents were released ahead of Thursday’s meeting of outside experts, who will discuss whether the Pfizer/BioNTech shot should be authorized for inoculating Americans.

A two-dose vaccination was highly effective in preventing confirmed cases of Covid-19 at least seven days after the last dose, FDA staff said.

The FDA said there was currently insufficient data to make conclusions about the safety of the vaccine in those younger than 16 years of age, pregnant women and those whose immune systems were compromised.

The FDA is expected to decide on whether to authorize the vaccine within days or weeks.

If you're planning on going to Vegas any time soon just remember they have 20% or less of the population reportedly vaccinated for the flu.

They say churches should be held to the same standards that allow casinos, bars, restaurants and others to operate based on a percentage of their capacity — currently 25% — not a hard cap.

“What Calvary Chapel Lone Mountain is seeking is equal footing,” said Sigal Chattah, its lead attorney.

All three justices cited recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings that handed victories to churches waging similar battles over religious freedom in New York and California. Each expressed skepticism about various arguments lawyers for Nevada made to justify disparate treatment of churches and secular businesses.

In Nevada, the churches sued in May over Sisolak’s directive that capped all indoor religious gatherings at a maximum of 50 people regardless of the church’s capacity.

On Sept. 30, he established a limit of 250 or 50% of capacity, whichever is less. And on Oct. 24, returned to a cap of 50 people or 25% of capacity, whichever is less.

Lawyers for the Nevada churches say the specific limits are beside the point. Lone Mountain has a fire code capacity of 700. Dayton Valley’s is 200.

Newby said casinos are an especially different category because they are strictly regulated by the Nevada Gaming Commission, are subject to training requirements and on-site COVID-19 testing and have increased enforcement abilities. He said the nature of church services makes them especially vulnerable to the spread of the virus.

            Smith scoffed at that argument.

“I read that in your brief and I couldn’t stop laughing. The reality is, when you have all these people in casinos, they’re not paying attention to any rules, I don’t care how well it is regulated. So I don’t see how you justify treating religions worse than casinos,” he said.

also don't go to church. You'll probably be exposed to COVID which is why they can't have more than like 50 people together. Restaurants are fine. They wipe tables down with a wet rag. Seems like a very calculated limit on capacity for that Dayton valley place. The one who took him to court is a 50 person limit at 25% capacity. You can still walk through walmart all day long because it's sanitary and safe from COVID 19, Plus the vaccine is coming out in March (well next week in Nevada even without the 30 day review made mandatory by their Governor) so we'll all be back out in public without masks for Joe Biden's 100 day speech.

Unsure what is so important about the UK giving people over 80 the vaccine that needs multiple shots over extended periods of time. I guess I'll find out in 6 months when those people receive their second shot, or whatever the time period is, and their recovery is documented.

Yup. Just issue an apology. "sorry y'all. I just infected 200 people COVID 19. It isn't like I'm Hitler. I just made a mistake." meanwhile states and countries are locking down and closing businesses. Oh and President Trump was issued fines for his gatherings and they were very well documented. Rita....unsure what it cost her financially. Thankfully I have no plans to visit the UK and I stay home and stay safe so I can get through the whole COVID 19 thing with hopes of running an organized 5k in my current city of residence. Maybe society should just follow those elites and stop wearing masks. Take the approach of "they can't take all of us." Imagine if some organized group tried going into a grocery store without masks....compared to a birthday party of 300 people it seems like just a small group of friends.
