Cruise Lines (Read 543 times)

The Greatest of All Time

DW and I are planning on taking our belated honeymoon during the last week in October. We are thinking about a Western Caribbean cruise. Does anyone have experience with the big cruise lines? Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, etc. Thanks!

*watches thread with interest* I have no cruise experience, but lately I have been thinking that it would be a very cool way to travel with a kid. I'd want to do a cruise with the ability to eat at any time and not be limited to buffets. We watched a thing on the Travel Channel this weekend about the Freedom of the Seas--largest ship in the world. Looked REALLY nice.

      One day at a time

Kirsten, have you considered a Disney cruise? I haven't been on one, but all of the people I know who have just swear by them - say you're treated like royalty and the kids have a wonderful time. I frequented an AOL Disney board for awhile (planning for our one AND ONLY trip to Disney World), and lots of moms swore by them.

I have...priced them and they are FREAKING $$$. Otherwise that would be really fun. Though DS is 7...probably would be 8 before we'd actually do something like a cruise. I think even a standard cruise with things like climbing walls and water slides would keep him pretty happy.

We'll be doing a family cruise next summer in honor of my oldest son graduating HS. I have a feeling it will cost a fortune!!

            I fly.

We took a Royal Caribbean cruise a few years ago - it was fun and not very fancy. I'd go again given the chance.

              Bring it on.

There are 3 types of people who take cruises- 1) Newly Wed 2) Over Fed 3) Close to Dead I'd rather spend my $ on a Catamaran in the islands... Wink

                  I've got a fever...

My wife's family did a family reunion on a cruise. I think it was the Holland-America line. A good time -- we ate like pagans. Only problem was that although it was all-you-can-eat (and we did), it was not all-you-can-drink, which is fairly essential, in my mind.

On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

You'll be hitting the tail end of hurricane season - might want to look into travel insurance.

Yeah, I thought about that. I need to check the history of hurricanes in the Western Caribbean during the last week in October. I can't imagine there are too many. We were thinking about hitting Belize, Honduras, and Cozumel...but you never know these days.

Hi Marcus Dh & I went on the Royal [Eastern] Caribbean "Enchantment of the Sea" Cruise eight years ago. We went to Saint Maarten, Saint Thomas, and Nassau Bahamas. the cruise costed $3021. -- which included roundtrip air, transfers, meals, and entertainment. Shore and land excursions were addtnl. It was a fun cruise. MTA: SOme of the shore and land excursions includes swimming with dolphins, snorkeling the coral reefs, and touring the islands.

I've only been one cruise so have absolutely nothing to compare it to ... it was a Princess Cruise (ship was the Diamond Princess, one of the biggest and newest). Out of Long Beach. I can't imagine a much more perfect vacation. And for what its worth, we didn't have many newlyweds, old people, or fat people. Seemed like a mostly 20s to early 40s crowd, a lot of fun people. Did the Mexican Riviera on the Pacific Side ... Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, etc. A truly awesome time. Great trip to take with a bunch of people. Winning a couple grand in the casino didn't hurt, either.
