Mo Farah in the marathon (Read 402 times)

lagwagon

good article in running times this month.

i like the part where AS calls BS on 6+min/mile easy recovery runs, and has Mo going 5:30s.

To me it sounds like Mo has a good grip on his capabilities, my money is top 5 and the british record.

I am told that Salazar lost a couple of his marbles on a sunny day in the Boston, Patriots day 1982.  What else could explain his decision to run an ultra-marathon years later (Comrades)

Salazar peruses these boards and plots revenge against friends and family who might diss him or any of his runners.

Is catnip a universal things for cats?  Do some cats just say no to catinip?  Although I am sure some "Potheads" have excitedly jumped, danced and rolled excitedly at times.

          not bad for mile 25

Not all cats are 'nipheads.  I think we know about Ilene now, though.

I find it hard to root for Mo Farah because of what Alberto did at USA indoors this past February, but I think it will take more than this first marathon to be successful unlike what salazar is saying

I wonder how Mo would define success - Screw Salazar, he is is just a "Tool" in Mo's toolbox.

I'm not ready to condemn athletes for the a-hole-ish behavior of their coach.  Have to remember what is at stake for them.  Cross Salazar, he boots you and burns your income from Nike.

Ideologically, yes it would be nice to see them show distain for such behavior.  Realistically, stepping into their shoes, hard to do.

                  And, what TripleBock said.

I kind of like where professional running seems to be heading, more of a team aspect. I hope the trend continues. Brooks Beast vs. Nike. Schumacher's group vs Nike Oregon Project. Team New Balance.

Salazar is the Bill Belichick of running coaches. Who in their right mind want to root for a team coached by that guy?

Oh...wait, there are probably a lot of New Englanders in this community!

How many guys named Mutai will beat him? Over/Under is at 1.

perhaps the greatest runner in the world currently. But will he be as good in the marathon as he is on the track?

I was pretty darn excited to see what Dibaba would do.  2:20:34. That does NOT suck, especially as her debut marathon. What a race.

I don't see what's so disappointing about 8th place for his debut marathon.  Mo as well as all of England seemed shocked and disappointed.  A case of too much hype, I'd say.

I don't know. Based on his 5k/10k and half marathon performances, as well as Kenny B's debut at Paris a couple weeks ago, 2:08 and 8th seems legitimately disappointing. Not a disaster by any means, but definitely not as good as most people would have/should have expected given his credentials.

                                re: Mo

It was mildly exciting when it looked like he was going to catch Emmanuel Mutai. At least on BBC, the main focus of the coverage was Mo, which was boring most of the time (and they missed the main breakaway completely), but that brief moment when it looked like he might catch E Mutai was at least a little bit interesting.

                                re: Dibaba

I think Tirunesh did a good job of keeping visual contact with the E & F Kiplagat, after the dropped water bottle. When they saw that, they surged and put her into a 10+sec gap, and I think she fell back to 17sec, but pulled it back to 12sec or so.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
