2013 Holiday Running Streak (Read 698 times)

xhristopher

Last year Seanv2 ran a holiday streak thread. I'm no streaker but have always found shorter streaks productive. Any interest this year?

Last year only 35% reported completing the streak.

You can read the Runners World article about this.

It's pretty simple. Run at least a mile a day -- but I'm going to add a new rule. If you put your name on the list and miss a day it doesn't give you the right to pack up and go home. You need to get right back at it as soon as you can and keep piling on the days and miles until New Year's day.

If you've never run a streak of a month or more I recommend it. You will learn new things about yourself as a runner: recovery, variations in daily pacing, time management, a little toughness, etc... If you do it right you might even get some nice mileage and gain a little fitness.

Assigned mileage must be run in December. Think of the end of November as a warm up and New Years as your cool down.

    not bad for mile 25

I'm (very unexpectedly) still streaking, over a year later.

I'm in. I actually just started my first ever streak and I'm up to 25 days now.  It feels great so far.

I'm in.  It'll help make it more manageable to hit 3,000 miles this year, which will in turn make building to a spring marathon more productive.

"When a person trains once, nothing happens. When a person forces himself to do a thing a hundred or a thousand times, then he certainly has developed in more ways than physical. Is it raining? That doesn't matter. Am I tired? That doesn't matter, either. Then willpower will be no problem."

I'm in.  I did this last year and the 39 days was easily my longest streak ever.  It was great to keep me motivated through the holidays and also even though I was only running 3 miles most days, I jumped up to a 13 mile run in Jan. with little problem.  The consistency was worth a lot.  Thanks for starting this x.

                        The tangents are moot.

In.  I will not replicate the 550 miles from December 2011 but I did commit to 400 miles elsewhere, so I pretty much have to do this.

IN. Marathon training anyway, I'll just fill in those few rest days with easy runs.

So, I ran today, does that count for the Start of my Streak? 2.5 easy miles tonight.
