It seems there are a lot more Sunday marathons than Saturday. Most of the biggies are Sunday races. Any thoughts on why that is? You would think a saturday race would give the extra day to travel and recoup for Monday. Is it because of traffic considerations?

The traffic probably has a lot to do with it. As long as the course avoids any churches there shouldn't be as much traffic early Sunday as there would be early Saturday. (If there are churches along the route, I hear you soon learn who really practices their teachings - "Move it you $(#&$^, I've got a #^*$% church to get to"). Another factor is probably the fact that after the race people can just leave. Before the race they have to get into town, and - more important - get to the expo to pick up their chip/bib/etc. having the race on Sunday gives you plenty of time to accomplish this on Saturday - plus gives the exhibiters at the expo more 'face time' with the crowds. Saturday races would require expo's to stay open later Friday and would probably force everyone through in a shorter amount of time - making the expo in effect more crowded than otherwise.
