Dropping off my weekly, a few choice comments, and updating the race board. I'll be back for more later.

Piwi - You set a low bar and I couldn't even step over it!!

Steve - You're absolutely right, I couldn't really understand a lot of that. I recognized all of the words, but their meanings escaped me.

Flavio - Solid week. How're things still going on the latest continent?

Zebano - With that 15k goal you're totally sandbagging that 5k!

Cherry picked my weather this morning for my TT. Tied my PR from about 10 weeks ago in less-great conditions, but fell well short of what I thought I would do. I'm sure I can find a real race to jump in to later in the year to really test out my fitness.

Watson - -2C is definitely too cold to be optimal.  5-12C is about optimal.  Below that, you have work harder to turn your legs over.  Less so if it's relatively dry, more so if it's damp.

Corey - well done on picking the mileage up.

Keen - the mileage king!  Also 73 geese?! That was a big day.

Zebano - bummer on the antibiotics.  I find some of them I'm fine with but I remember being on doxycycline late last year and that really killed my running for a bit, horrible stuff.

RP - your description of cricket is as accurate as I've heard anywhere.

Piwi / orange shirt - yeah should be a fun race schedule assuming Covid doesn't mess with it.  I've got 5 races coming up between August and November, so fingers crossed at least a couple of them go ahead! (ideally all 5, but that's not how my luck has run so far)

Flavio - another excellent week and great long run in there too.

They call it a 15k, but it's trail and my watch usually measures 8.7 miles .... aka half a mile or more short!

What's is the "resetting your confidence" bit about?

        1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

zebano - Yep, the knee feels much better.  Who would have thought being sensible and missing one easy paced run would be a good strategy!

flavio - Huge week and very impressive long run.  Not leaving for cricket just yet...4 days after the match my body actually is starting to feel better.

keen - Another huge week.  Nice work on the 5km.  Both you and piwi look like you've got faster times coming up.

Cricket - Anyone confused about it, don't worry too much.  All you need to know is that New Zealand are the world champions and defeated a country with one billion obsessed cricket fans in the final.

Zebano - That would certainly explain the difference there.
Every run after my workout (which was great) on Tuesday felt like garbage. Just hard/slow for the effort, feeling drained, etc. Saturday I was supposed to have a 15 miler, cutting down 5-10 sec/mi until about M pace, but ended up doing 12 easy instead ahead of the TT. The 12 easy was way harder/less pleasant than it should have been, to the point that I know the 15 miler wouldn't have been possible. "Resetting the confidence" was about things moving back to where they should be regarding effort/HR/pace.

Steve - Thanks for the primer on cricket, it sets my mind at ease.

1.4 billion, in fact.  So, you know, only almost 300x our population.

Superlatives get overused these days but I don't think it's a stretch to describe it as the greatest David vs. Goliath result of all time, ever.

Americans - this was the equivalent of the Cubs winning the World Series in 2016, if they'd been playing a team of the best Allstars picked from every other team.

                So the Yankees...

All the San Francisco Giants needed was Taylor Swift to put out an album during an even year.

To really confuse the American's, there are three international formats for cricket, of which we are world champions, runners up and third/fourth in the three formats.  With the shortest (where we came third/fourth) having its next world cup late this year.

And to really confuse the American's, being "all out" actually means "everyone's out except for one batter".  I could go on and on about what is simultaneously an amazing and utterly pointless game.

All I know is cricket is somehow the second most popular sport in the world and the bat looks like a disciplinary instrument from a 1940s schoolhouse. I'll have to use "all out" at a baseball game when there are 2 outs just to confuse people.

One word: India (ironically, it's not even the national sport of India, which is field hockey).

TBH I would've expected cricket further down the list, after football (obvious #1), basketball (popular worldwide and particularly in Asia) and maybe a couple of others.  There are literally only 10 or so countries in the world that play cricket to any reasonable standard, it just so happens that includes India and Pakistan.
