RIP Milkman

I have a "run to the brewery" run next Sunday. It's a 5 mile / 8K race. Your ticket comes with free booze after the race. However, last time I ran these, you got EXTRA booze if you came in the top 3. You also got a cool mug to drink said booze out of.

Clearly I should just race this for place and not time right? I hope nobody truly fast shows up. A 4th place finish here would leave me devastated

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

RP - Yeah I didn't like the Vaporflies but they just didn't suit my feet (way too narrow).  I love the Endorphin Pros, probably because they're the only racing shoes that fit and because I'm used to shoes twice as heavy.

JMac - I don't think that's a serious question.  There's the only one option.  My next race finishes at a brewery.  I don't think we get beers at the finish line but I don't mind paying.  I'll have a 4.5 hour drive straight after the race but hopefully my partner is willing to step up while I enjoy the sponsors products on the road trip.

I think any shoe that has had a top 10 place in an elite marathon or half marathon in the last year is almost certainly very good.

Nike had a huge jump on other companies until 2020.  Plus their big sponsorship budget gets lots of elites.  So they have a big part of the good amateur market due to these two factors (plus having some great shoes).

RP - I love that your auto correct changed it to Columbia. That’s the best way to trigger people from South America 😈

Jmac - Well that is a run that is sure to be fun! Hopefully you don’t go home devastated (I love this lets run meme)

me - Woke up and I still had a niggle on the upper right hamstring so I didn't want to risk it and run the prescribed workout (9x1k @ 10k pace).

Took the Hokas for an easy ride instead. They're def more cushy than the Altras but they squeeze my toes 😐

I keep telling my toes that it's just for a month. My wife wants me to do a checkup because I'm always so tired. I keep telling here it's this damn marathon training I've inexplicably decided to join.

Flavio I didn't auto correct anything. Good old fashion "the pencil spelled it wrong" Engrish. I blame it on hearing about ColUmbine growing up. Similar to colOmbia but spelled different.

Dude, that's some workout even if you're niggle free!  I don't think I've ever done more than around 7 x 1k at anything like that pace.

JMac - I remember you talking about that race last year actually.  Do it for the beers!

Honestly that sounds like the sort of trophy that I could get on board with.  I was mildly disappointed at Southern Lakes Half when the race director was talking about how the previous (sadly now passed away) race director used to sneak up into the mountains and get a chunk of pink schist and hand craft trophies out of that.

I guess my question is: what is the recovery.

9x1K at 10K pace with equal time jog after doesn't seem that hard a workout. But if the recovery is substantially shorter than the duration of the interval, it's obviously much harder.

Yeah, that makes sense.  Even with 1km recoveries it seems like a big workout in the middle of a big week.  My coach would probably make it 6-8 depending on how I feel.

9x1K with rest somewhere around 1:30 seems like a very reasonable workout. Not easy, but not impossible. I'm surprised Mark hasn't done something that long. I just did 8x1K last night at 5K pace with 2:30 jog recovery. It certainly took me about 6 weeks of workouts to get to this point, but it wasn't a back-breaking workout. 1200s though, they can go straight to hell. Anyone who does 3x1 mile at 5K pace is insane.
