Sub 1:30 Half Marathon 2021 Edition (Read 448 times)

Keen nice week good to see you leading the thread in mileage as usual 😀

The group running should be alot of fun.

RP I think you mean Kauri tree 🌳 but nice try.

Did you like my and Marks tribute to you on strava today ?

I went to PT today for my upper back lower neck issues.

She did some dry needling and manipulation to start to free it up. My first time with acupuncture. I can actually turn ny head  now which will help with crossing roads when running 🏃‍♂️

I can't be the only one thinking "New Zealand has trees?" I figured the only trees you had were protected by the government because they were the home to some large bug or animal. How much wood can you really get from a palm tree? (Googles Trees in New Zealand) Hope you picked up a large Karui for the winter.

Get quite a lot of firewood out of one of those (just don't tell the department of conservation).

Plus buying firewood in summer means if you store it well, then it's dry for winter.  Trying to burn wood that hasn't dried enough is a frustrating experience.  2017 was the last time I was in a house that had a wood burner, so the talk is bring back nostalgia.

Some really nice weeks on here.

Shoulder rehab still going.  I'm doing a little running.  On 1 February, I'll hopefully have a "back to sport" test with my physio.

Watson, what happened to your shoulder? Did you ride a mechanical bull as well?

Piwi I was honored you and Mark gave me a "shout out" with your Strava titles. Mark's was really long and cut off mid sentence so I was thinking of a phone conversation where a person ran out of minutes..."tune in NEXT time....."

Mark Do you think they'd notice one or two of those missing? Maybe during the next big weather event one just happens to fall over cleanly.

online work team event today. Should be boring especially since they didn't include any time for lunch. 10a-3p. I'm sure they'll announce lunch is 12-1 and everyone needs to be back at their computer for fun and game time.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

I love Oreos. Maybe the punishment can be to eat oreos instead of dress up this year.

I was trying to figure out what you were referring to here and then got even more confused when I saw you video . I still feel that my PR of 2.88m right after HS is an ok number. I'm afraid I'll hurt myself if I try now.

My strength coach prescribed 3x18 of these today.

The last jump was equal to the first.

It seems I have something blocking my hips.

My completely sedentary sister jumped roughly the same distance.

My completely sedentary brother in law and sister in law jumped a bit over 2m.

Not sure what's going, hopefully the coach can figure it out.

No kidding, you seem flexible enough squatting down, no? Are you limited in the extension phase? Also, I'm no expert on broad jumps but even the instructional video has pretty bad arm use for the jump.

Flavio - You could have something blocking your hips, or it could just be differences in genetics. My sedentary, a-bit-overweight-but-nothing-compared-to-usual-American-standards younger brother can absolutely smoke me in a race up to probably 400m.

The group session did go well - this one was a pretty unstructured fartlek session, which worked well since I had done a tough workout Monday morning (before knowing 100% I'd sign up). While this will throw a bit of a wrench in my usual plans as a morning runner I'm sure I can make it all work out, and it was good to get to run with people again - outside of tiny bits of company during races I think it has been nearly 2 years since I've been in any social runs, and I've never done group workouts before.
One of the coaches that's helping with this program also has a separate coaching business. The combo of services and rates for a season is quite attractive, and depending on how things work out this spring I'm strongly considering signing up for that and targeting a certain massively-downhill, can't-help-but-OTQ marathon that's known for perfect weather late this fall.

                          zebano

Keen - Nice fartlek, you're rounding into really good shape.

Trees - wow I'm reminded of Redwood National Forest, they're the only trees I've ever seen that remotely compare to that.

RP I think those oreos are a great  "punishment". In fact I'll go fail a sub 20 5k immediately if I get a package of those.

Flavio I was just thinking about adding plyometrics to my strength work but I suspect I'll look very similar to you.

                            1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

My run this morning appears in garmin connect but not on strava. Have tried a few things but can't get it across.

                              Any clues ?
