Flavio - Hopefully you get this figured out, or that it at least just goes away. You mentioned stress several times, but don't mention if you feel any undue stress, except perhaps for what you're feeling as a result of the symptoms.

    Running Problem

    Problem Child

zeb anger/hate fueled a LOT of hard runs back  then. now...it's just a point of "does it even matter?" Similar to JMac and Flavio seeing a different perspective. While other people are talking about 10ks and half marathons all my local races are canceled. Most recently due to a lack of interest. Organizers tried to put on an event they'd started maybe 3 years ago, and no one wanted to do it. The shitty thing is I think a LOT of people were actually interested, and were going to wait until the last minute to sign up. The problem is putting up the effort for an entire month along with the finances HOPING people would show up. Do I feel like sub 3 is something I just want to do? yes. Do I WANT to? yeah probably.  Some days I remember how accomplished I felt doing it and other days its a "does anyone REALLY care other than to use it as an identifier about me?" type of thing. It is a mental game I struggle with. The workouts I'm doing don't compare to the ones I was doing at the same time two years ago. So I compare myself to myself for the same race and the same workout while also fighting myself with the advice from this board of "train where you're at, not where you want to be." Just like JMac and Flavio said, perspective of things in life changing. I might be unhappy until I realize a friend's house might burn in a California fire and he had zero notice at work and couldn't get to his house to get anything. Another would be people who make way more money than me and can afford anything I'd want being unhappy or too busy to enjoy them. So my perspective is way off currently and the mental focus is all over the map. Typically I can channel the negativity and after 18 months of no real races it's hard to channel it when there is currently a 1% chance my goal race is canceled. I'm not like dwave and have a back up and a back up to the backup.

Flavio I've never had high blood pressure, but I've head light headedness. Ideally it is just a stress thing and not an actual physical problem. I can tell you it really sucks (had this conversation with another online friend today) waking up and spending days just trying to figure something out about yourself you're so unsure of when you've never been this way. Trying to figure out what stress you when you don't feel stressed can be an exercise in madness.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Zeb I saw your track results on strava, very nice. Good to try something different. Yeah I agree on the per capita thing. We were actually 8th overall as of yesterday which is really good anyway for 4 million people.

Flavio that sucks. Alot of people suffering anxiety since this pandemic began. You don't have a home or country right now so it must be hard to relax. What is the plan going forward? Portugal still ?

RP tempos in the heat are tough. I've got as many races as I want but I don't feel like racing. I seem to enjoy training but not the looming deadline of a race.

I see Centro got knocked out of the 1500. Hocker looks good for the US.

Flavio - hope you feel better and get things sorted soon. I’ve had a few big doses of perspective lately which is good in some ways but I could do without them too. I’m definitely on the lookout for signs of stress or other. It’s not helpful to have a medical professional dismiss you like that.

I hope you manage to resume marathon training soon but it’s not the most important thing!

Piwi interesting. You seem to have done well in the races you've entered. How are the squats going? Weren't you working out more than just running a while ago? I've been so in/out/distracted I can't seem to keep up with what goes on here.

RP I've been doing a twice a week strength routine which is about 40 mins each session. I do abs, lunges, step ups, single leg balance reps, squats and deadlifts.

I reckon its been very beneficial as my workouts have been strong. The extra strength from the upper legs and glutes is noticeable.

Flavio that can be really scary stuff hope it is nothing and you are back training without worrying about your health.

RP I feel you on the passion seems I have lost mine as well ,perspective and priority change especially as one gets older.

Zebano nice job on the 800 in the all comers meet how did you do in the 4x400 did you have a team going in or just get paired up with 3 others?  We have the all comers meet around here but like you said turn out is usually poor and I've found myself running against kids so I haven't been to any in a few years.

Side note my recently graduated son had his first interview (via Zoom) yesterday, heres hoping it was successful enough to get him an in person interview and hopefully a job offer.  If so he may be off to Maui Hawaii.

CFarr Awesome news for your son! I hope he interviews well.

regarding the 800 it wasn't an important race but I find it odd you all are congratulating me. You're not supposed to negative split an 800. I absolutely lollygagged the first lap, but as Piwi said, it's fun to do something different. Regardless, I wasn't upset about it at all, I went out to race and won the race, it just so happened that it was 2 8th graders who ran 2:42-45 and a 11th grade  pacing them who could have smoked me.

For the 4x400 we had 3 people going in an picked up one guy. There were only 3 teams and 1 was full of kids but we won pretty handily. My 3rd leg runner thought I came through in 67high or 68 low he wasn't sure and the timing system wasn't used. I did my handoff, made sure I was across the line and hit the watch in 1:10 so that seems reasonable.

Regarding passion, I'm still running mostly to be the best version of myself that I can be but I've also found that if I skip a day, I feel like I've missed out. I don't really run on anger so different strokes for different folks I guess. I have noticed that I don't have the massive pre-race nerves that I used to have and I wonder if I'm not bringing as much effort to the races as I used to but who knows.

CK let us know what you think of those. I have a few SiS gels (not beta) and the 2 I've used have settled really nicely in my stomach, even at faster than easy (but not quite T) paces.

                      1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

                      Problem Child

Cfarr I think I got some passion back. As for moving to Maui....best of luck. I had a neighbor who lived on the island(s) for a while. It's really expensive to live there. Think "bay area California" cost of living because everything comes in on a boat. Also, apparently the sea water and ocean breeze everyone love on vacation just ruins furniture and such. Maybe he can get into HURT 100 though, or volunteer for that race.

Piwi sounds good. I skipped mine last night. Half because I didn't want do it, and half because I blame my kids. Wife wanted to take a shower in the morning, and both of them needed/wanted HER to do everything. When they went to bed she showered and I said "well can't work out because the oldest might wake up and bug her." It seems to be making a difference again, but maybe I'm going easy and need to step it up a little.

RP - if the Vatican can be considered a country, then San Marino surely can.

It’d be sweet if the Vatican sent some athletes to the Olympics though, can you imagine a bunch of sisters fully dressed up competing in something like beach volleyball ?

Zeb - Oohhh, that 800 sounds awesome. Sub 2:30 is def. within range.

I don’t think race day nerves help, quite the opposite.

Keen - The thing is if it was stress it was completely under the surface, subconscious. The thing with anxiety is that sometimes events from a distant past resurface due to triggers unbeknownst to me. (Look at me using the big words).

Piwi - Yeah, plan is still Portugal. Kudos for keeping your membership on the strength training club!

Steve - No, I was not mad at the nurse, quite the opposite, I saw that blood pressure reading and immediately panicked OMG OMG OMG.

When she looked at me, asked 3 or 4 questions, classified me as low risk and did an eletro “just in case”, I figured I was ok and relaxed a bit.

me update - I'm feeling slightly better, thanks all for the well wishes.

Flavio good to hear back from you. Pretty much everyone suffers stress and anxiety. At least nowadays it's recognized. I remember been about 20 and suffering panic attacks while queuing in a bank. I felt like I couldn't breathe. I ended up getting chest x rays and going to an ear nose specialist who stuck a tube with camera  up my nose and down my throat to have a look.  Everything was fine.i thought maybe all my attic work with no mask had left crap in my lungs. Turns out it was all just in my head.

Zeb ditto here I don't quite get the adrenaline rush I used to in a race. I used to be able to go out crazy fast and feel completely numb to it.

Corey yeah on holiday a Parkrun is about all I dare ask my wife for . Actually a destination big city marathon she would be fine with.

My Wednesday workout trashed my lower legs. Saturday today and I forced a fast average pace run hoping they would warm into it but they didn't cooperate.

AQI over 200 today. If Mother Nature would quit trying to burn California it would be great. The hilarious thing is looking at the EPA website say 97, then look outside. I work for air pollution for those who don't know. It was definitely NOT a 37 this morning and definitely NOT a 97 this afternoon. The Purple Air sensors were saying 158+ for the 1 hour average. I was definitely NOT running today...and probably not tomorrow with the forecast around 300 unless I drive somewhere. Maybe Folsom. Race specific training and such.
