Problem Child
Mick A lot of the prices went up when the resorts started being bought out by the company owning lots of fancy resorts in Colorado. It's worth it. I just wouldn't go at Christmas time. I'd go before or after and avoid the crowds of tourists and visitors. Oh yeah....a season pass usually goes on sale during spring or summer. They start at $400 so it might actually SAVE you money to buy one before you show up. Just check the blackout days for the cheap passes. Typically it is all holiday weekends.
Piwi It's 4.5 hours from KT 22 to Mavricks. Why not do both in the same day? California is the greatest state in the Nation. I tried to learn how to surf. On a 6' short board. With no one helping me. Decided it wasn't for me because I didn't want to get up and drive to the ocean for morning waves. This was a summer during college. I also didn't like surfers all that much, but I really liked the ocean and waves. Dad bought me a subscription to SURFER magazine (I know...dating myself) in college and I'd put up photos of the waves in my dorm. Never know how much you miss something until it's gone.
I might just run the course, mark some turns to the best of my ability, put it on Strava and see how many people run the course the weekend of. Just means I need to get out there maybe the week of or weekend before for a measured 5k and possibly put a cone in a specific turn lane. Ideally the race organizers wouldn't get busted for someone spray painting the road.
Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

Darkwave - Hope your area is back to normal now that the inauguration is done.
I got outside to the park (hard dirt) twice this week & was surprised how sore my right quad was, both during the runs and for a couple of days afterwards. Guess I still need to toughen the legs up a bit. Was otherwise ok, and my 8:40-45ish pace was about normal for easy runs when I'm doing high (for me) mileage. I took that as confirmation that the treadmill’s speed/distance numbers are way low, since they say I’m going between 12-minute and 9:40 pace.
To stave off boredom on the treadmill, I've been trying different variations of gradual pace changes. I always start slowly to protect my hamstrings, but sometimes after the first mile, I'll bump up the speed by 0.1 mph every 9 minutes and finish at a steady effort (HR right after I stop is around 125). Other times I'll do a ladder and go up every three minutes, hold at the top speed for 9 minutes, and then go back down every 6 minutes, or go up every 4:30, hold at the top for 9, and go back down every 4:30 (HR right after I stop is 110-115). I suppose the first way is better mental training, but the other ways are mentally easier, and since I spend the same amount of total time at each speed each of the three ways, I'm not sure whether there's much of a physical difference.
Sun - about 11 miles on treadmill (1:39 at faster than 9-minute effort)
Mon - 9.4 miles in park @8:41, faded late, right quad sore
Tues - off
Weds - 9.4 in park @ 8:45, started slow & got less slow, quad still sore
Thurs - 11 TM, quad less sore
Fri - 11 TM
Sat - off
Total - about 51.8 miles worth of time/effort - 4th straight week over 50ish

I had a good week due to bumping up my first 4 runs this week to 14kms. I kept them all at a decent pace too.
One workout with a 6km tempo but was closer to 10k pace than half effort.
I had planned some intervals today but decided on recovery just incase I break
Piwi you gotta go back out for those 800m man! Nice week you rock!
HM: 1:47 (9/20) I FM: 3:53:11 (9/23)
2024 Goals: run a FM & HM + stay healthy!
James - nice consistency there. I used to find the TM easier than road surfaces so probably the body just adjusting to it.
Piwi - helluva week for a hobby jogger!! I guess those neck niggles disappeared?
Me - the rebuild continues. The track session on Saturday was my best in probably 6 months or more. It was supposed to be 6 x 800 with 200 recoveries, but I was in the groove and made it 8 x 800 with 3 x 400's to finish. I feel like I'm now well and truly getting back in the rhythm of training how I was in 2019. Here's hoping we stay Covid-free and this case in Northland doesn't spread any further.
The HRM on my trusty Fenix 5S has been playing up on-and-off for the last week or so. Luckily not during my runs but I think it's definitely nearing the end of its life. Luckily the Fenix 6 is on the Airpoints store so I will probably buy that, not much danger of needing to save those Airpoints for international travel any time in the near future.

Hot Weather Complainer
piwi - I agree with Mick. Get those 800 metres in the next few hours.
Me - Knee pain calmed down a lot thanks to foot stools at my desk. Crazy. Had some hot running conditions as you'd expect in January. But I'm now targeting a marathon in June so that takes out peak training in summer. Phew. This week looks hot, Tuesday is forecast for 35C (95F) but thankfully I'm still slowly building back up. I still expect scoffing from Colorado Jack though!

Mother of Cats
James - good to see the continued progress! I think the details of the treadmill running matter less than the fact that you are getting it done. I'm also not a fan of using the treadmill for mental toughness training - I think that if you are getting the work done, that is enough mental training.
Piwi - that was a fast tempo. I find it hard to believe one could tempo 6K straight at 10K pace, so your 10K pace may be faster!
Marky_Mark - nice to see things hitting a groove for you.
Steve - very interesting on the stools helping with the knee pain.
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

Mick - Obviously I’m doing this so I can impress Sophie Arvebrink hahaha.
So, the real reason, the coach prescribed 3x18 of these jumps.
The first try last week I failed miserably with those short hops.
Then this week I failed again. And then I got pissed of and couldn’t stop thinking how to fix it.
Then I tried to jump on grass and it worked. It seems it was fear of the landing due to jumping barefeet on hard ground.
Mikkey - It’s part of the current routine, there’s one of the training routines that has these jumps, 3x18.
Zeb - LOL, yeah, at 13 year old they’re already almost fully grown.
Piwi - monster week!
me - nice week with some good workouts on Tue/Thu.

Mark I like how you get your week done on 5 runs but at a good clip. Back to your lower mileage and higher intensity works well for you. Did you see the Potts Classic 3000m ?
Steve good to see you back running again. Christchurch has some hot days.
Darkwave nice longrun today on strava !
I think I could run a 10k at about 3.50/km but I need to do a time trial to confirm. So my so called tempo is too fast. I have done the last couple at 4.05/km which is likely half pace.
Flavio nice week keep up the good work.
Piwi - forgot to watch it but saw the results. We have some good young talent around at the moment. There were a couple of teenagers nudging the low 8-minutes in the 3,000m.
I'm finding the 5 runs with 2 days off running is working well. I hit the workouts nice and fresh. I might add a short recovery run and go down to one day off in a few weeks time, but will always keep at least one day off running regardless.
Steve - sounds like good progress on the knee, that's great news.
Flavio - good week. It's reassuring to see that someone is keeping up the Daniels fan club on here with JMac being relatively quiet.
Flavio - subconsciously protecting yourself from the landing makes a LOT of sense.
Thanks - I actually wasn't terribly happy with it. Just one of those runs where you never feel great. The last 2 miles were hard - partly because I'm not in great shape and it's been a full year since I've run that far; partly because I was overdressed; partly because I underdid the gels.
Hopefully my fitness will start to turn in the next few weeks - when things are stalling it's sometimes hard to know whether to back off or hold the course. I think that I'm going to give it another week or two and see if I break through this plateau.
My week:
69 miles, 1500 yards swimming, and 1:40 hours of pool-runningM: 12 miles including a track workout of 2x1200, 2x800, 2x400, 4x200 in 4:41, 4:40, 3:07, 3:06, 90, 89, 43, 44, 43, 43. Followed with light injury prevention work and 500 yards recovery swimming.
I'm doing birthday stuffs with the family so just dropping this here quickly. I'll get caught up tomorrow.
Very happy with this week. It was supposed to be recovery and I did that while getting in two decent sessions (the 12.3 mi was on snowy trails and pretty solid effort given the terrain; The fartlek was probably a touch faster than I'd have done without being leashed to the pup)). I finished the week by exploring a new state park with friends while turning 40.
8 hours / 50.3 mi running
25 min cycling
1h 8m / 1.6 mi swimming
15 min weights
9h 48min
1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)
Flavio the fear of landing on concrete makes sense. Grass just fels smoother even though dirt hurts. Snow sometimes feel like falling on concrete.
Piwi nice week. 10k pace instead of half marathon? Someone had some extra juice to get going, or was it a bad day at work?
Mark your training paces, as well as Jmac when he is in the groove, just blow my mind. I guess you need some speed to PR the marathon by almost a minute per mile faster than me. I think the days off really help so you're going into harder workouts with fresh legs. I think only the marathon needs to be on some tired legs. No need to build that up for anything else.
steve I HATE the heat. I suffer through it and make my long runs at 7am to avoid it as much as possible. During normal times I just suck it up during lunch runs at work. Kudos to you for going through it all and the knee pains going away.
My Week
More miles than I was/have planned for. 50 is about where I saw myself until child #2 arrives. A 5k just went virtural and a group is planning a "race" near my hosue on a flat out and back so maybe I try to break 19:44 again. Might actually have another runner capable of being ahead of me dragging me that last mile to keep hammering.
