Steve - based on the 4pm announcement, the 100 person limit on hospitality has been removed outside of Auckland subject to maintaining a distancing requirement.  There also seems to be a big emphasis on outdoor being a lot less of a problem than indoor gatherings.  I'm not sure what this means for your race but it could be good news.  I'm sure you'll find out one way or another soon enough.

Yeah I see the 100 person limit is removed but it's completely unclear whether the race can happen from what they've said, noting I may have missed important parts of it because it is not good for my mental health to watch that person give these updates.

Don't think you've missed anything, I read the release and it's pretty vague.  I'm sure it'll get clarified soon enough.  Or made more confusing.

"While the 100-person cap will be removed from Wednesday, customers must still be seated and separated with physical distancing. The news will provide limited relief to struggling hospitality businesses, but was not good for organisers of large events who needed a drop to level 1 to be able to operate."

Doesn't look likely based on that.

Man, I can't even trust them to be clear enough to make it 100% clear it's cancelled so I can have a very rare Monday night bourbon.

Well, if you had to drink every time this government did a competent job of something then you probably wouldn't be drinking ever.

Confirmed cancelled. I think I’ll save the bourbon for later in the week though. Dunedin is no guarantee so hopefully Selwyn can sort something out for level 2.

This feels like how every training cycle ends at the moment.

                Ugh.  I am sorry.

James - great (and very interesting) race report.   I've done races with strollers; I've done races with people in body armor.  Never with someone in body armor pushing a stroller, though....

Congratulations on breaking 80% age grouping, as well as executing a great race!

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

Since we're doing shoe updates, those Alphafly's I got were definitely fake.  High stack but didn't have any of the bounce that you would expect.  Oh well, it was worth a go.

On the bright side, I got some heavily reduced Saucony Endorphin Pro's when Running Warehouse Australia had a sale a few days back.

Doh! I'll be curious how the Pros work for you compared to the VFs. Speedy week!

Steve good week, I hope you get to race soon, that really sucks to have another one cancelled.

Flavio You're tapering anyways right? I still think you have some great marathon fitness right now.

DW You may not be where you want to be but your paces have gotten noticeably faster recently (probably since you fixed the gut issue).

James  Great race and no mention of your hamstring. That's awesome. A 3rd mile uphill is a nasty nasty trick by the organizers.

RP good work. Is there a RR in the other thread?

I turned in another 60 mile week... with a rather poor race performance at the end of it.

T 6E + 6 strides this feels like my most common training day

                    10 miles with  5xKM at Threshold on 400 jog working down toward 10k pace (4:11, :08, :07, :05, 3:59) + 4x200 (43, 41, 41, 38). legs felt rough and I was super glad these weren't at 5k pace.

                    Th 50 minutes easy

                    6E + 6 strides

                    Sun 6.8 mi singletrac

The race was ... brutal. 97% humidity (I need to look up dewpoint) and 65F at the start, 77F at the finish. I started out at what I thought was a nice controlled steady pace, chatting, power hiking the big climbs (my watch had 2500 feet elevation over the full 3 lap course most of which is concentrated into 2 long climbs). The ugly part for me was that the downhills were so steep and technical that I wasn't able to open up on them and it destroyed my quads. 3 big uphills, 2 longish sections of singletrac and 3 loops roughly 5.2 miles each. I was stead in the second lap running each of the first 2 in 53 minutes but on the third I fell apart and frankly just didn't fight it. I didn't have it and I just wanted to survive.

                    1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

                      Steve damn. That sucks.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

                        James - also well raced.

Steve - sorry about Wellington.  Looking at the Selwyn race site, there doesn't seem to be anything regarding what would happen at Level 2?  Are the people of Selwyn even aware of Covid-19?

Zebano - can you clarify your race?  It was 6.8 miles or 15.6 (3 * 5.2) with 2500 feet elevation?  That's some serious hills.

Mark - The Wellington cancellation in June was the killer and totally out of the blue.  I entered for the new date after the start of the outbreak knowing it was 50-50.  Training has been so so good in the last 2 weeks though that I started to really want it.  I hope there are severe gales on Sunday in Wellington!

You can have picnics and you have a roadmap...to the end of the driveway with no dates or targets, and appears to have been drawn up by a primary school class.  Cup and Show week looks dead for the second year in a row which is a massive blow to the Canterbury economy.  My car needs a warrant so I actually came to the office today.  When I go get my coffee I'll be interested to see how many places have survived.

Keen - Can you please update Wellington on October 10 to cancelled and add Dunedin Half-Marathon, November 7?

Steve - +1 to Marks comments re your bad luck with races this year.  I suspect Selwyn could happen if they plan for it.  The Wellington 10km club championship happened at Level 2, they spread out the events over the day, the senior race was split into a morning slow (38+ minutes) and a fast sub 38 minutes), so the Selwyn organisers could probably make it happen.
