You get a lot of extra credit for the Boo urns reference. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve used that reference

I'm really John III (ETA for those who don't know, Jack is a very common nickname for John), so blame my great grandfather for starting it. He was in Ireland at the time. Who knows what he was drinking
I'm sorry, but if your grandfather was named John McKeon, then your father should be calledJohn McMcKeon and you should be called John McMcMcKeon. That's a clear violation of the patronymic rules and it makes a mockery of all of us with proper names.
You might think I'm joking, but here's a link to the rule set: Patronymic names ruleset

this was very funny! It captures the ridiculousness and the dramatic nature of the original statement below very well!
" However, saying that is a PR when it was clearly a short course and specifically saying I don't care what anyone thinks is pretty damn disrespectful to all the guys who are working their ass off on this thread to run new PRs. "

Ugh Flavio you got me on the link. Well done.

My week. Includes 2 days abs, 2 days squats and deadlifts, 5 days upper body, and 4 surfs 🏄♀️
Piwi - nice job on the running and 'ocean cross training'. Do you need a decent wetsuit for surfing at the moment? I'm guessing it's still pretty cold.
Me - another decent week of training. Felt a bit crap earlier in the week, possibly the humidity or possibly a bit shattered from battling some pretty horrible weather last weekend. Saturday's track session was solid though, always a good sign when the faster you go, the better you feel.
In the absence of anything else to do, I'm gonna start building artist playlists for my long runs. This Sunday was Filter (and no, it wasn't Hey Man Nice Shot on repeat x40). It's a good way of revisiting artists who have a deep enough back catalogue that you can find a couple of hours worth of all killer, no filler.
piwi - Sounds like you're living the good life at the moment! It really is a great spot, where you live.
Mark - Nice week. I only really know Take a Picture, which is a magnificent song.
Good week for me with the 10km tempo going really well. I'm easing off now as I taper into race week. I really don't see how Christchurch doesn't go into level 3 in the next few days, which would wipe out the race. But since this is the last hope, I will do a time trial if it's cancelled so it's race week for me either way.
I've not been feeling great all week, with a fuzzy head and tiredness which I assume is from blacking out last Sunday. From Wednesday I've also had a sore throat and cough and then yesterday added an upset stomach to the mix. It's all pretty mild though and didn't seem to impact running too much so hopefully I can get back to 100% and head into race weekend feeling good. The forecast for race day really couldn't be much better for early November - light winds and a maximum temperature of only 18C (64F) which hopefully means it will be 10-12C at race time. I still prefer colder but I can't ask for much better than that at this time of the year.
Steve - random thought, but do you think the bit where you smacked your jaw could've given you a concussion? I remember a friend copped an unexpected shove in the back when playing hockey a few years back, he got a concussion (no direct contact with the head) and had similar symptoms in terms of fuzzy head and fatigue. Anyways good job on that 10km tempo workout and the rest of your week. Keeping fingers crossed for you over the next few days.
It's possible, and I did say on the day I'd keep an eye out for signs. If it is, it's very mild - I've been concussed a few times and it was pretty horrific.
Steve and Mark - nice weeks.
My week was good, like Steve I'm one week out from my half, which should go ahead. And the long range forecast is pretty good, low 9 C with high 16C, some rain, and mild southeasterlies (much better than the northerly).
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
Keen - put my aim down for next week, as 1:27:30.
Piwi - Nice work with the strength training. Last week I did the deadlift with roughly 30kg, super mediocre but you gotta start somewhere.
Mark - It’s been so long I forgot you’re still locked down. I remember how tough those last few weeks were, when I started running laps of 40m at the parking space behind the building to remain sane.
me - I'm still recovering from the many injuries sustained during the marathon. Last week I had a few back issues, the poor physiotherapist was shocked. I still have a left achilles issue (really all left posterior chain) but that is a known issue so I'm not as concerned as I know eventually it will pass. Back issues, however, worry me very much and they're thankfully slowly subsiding.
I hope to have a string of pain free runs in the next few weeks so I can restart my training. So far I still have pain in the left achilles that bothers me specially when going uphill.
I will say though it's so nice to run without any commitment, just enjoying the run.
Steve yes its a bit too nice here hence the distractions. If I lived in Christchurch I'd probably run more . Nice job on that 10k tempo.
Mark water was 13c about 4 weeks ago but now over 17c. It's fine with a decent 4/3mm wetsuit. Wind chill makes a difference. In summer water gets to about 21c and boardshorts and a rash shirt suffice.
Nice week. That humidity was a shock to the system.
Watson you didn't like my week 😒
Looking forward to your half. A 1.27 would be a big success after your injury woes this year.
Flavio wow that marathon really did a number on you.
TBH my deadlifts and squats only have 35kgs on as I don't have more weights 🙃 but I do a few reps. I have a mate who puts up Instagram vids of him squatting over 200kgs which makes me feel pathetic
