Mother of Cats

The Saucony Kinvara has been my staple shoe for like 4 years now but the 12's are just way too firm for everyday use (like, racing flat firm), and the only time I've felt comfortable in them has been track workouts.

Interesting.  I like a firm shoe.  Is the Kinvara low stack still?  Or puffed up like everything else?

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

I think the overall stack height is around 5mm greater than the Kinvara 11 (which makes the firmness even weirder).  I found they beat my quads up a lot on road surfaces but I can live with them on the track.  If you like firm shoes, you may well enjoy them!

I'm assuming the Kiwis are talking about crickets. Or croquet. Or wicketing crickets with flat bats. Or something. Go team!

You jest but one of my twins is a huge Croquet fan, it's his favorite part about visiting Grandma. Of course I don't think it's actually the croquet, it's that she lets him set up the course however he wants and we  end up playing over/under/through various obstacles

I'm with Mar. Just get sick now better safe than sorry. Have you decided which marathon you're going to run? Good luck with the 10k, you're not sick you've just got the taper madness (that was the point of the weak 80mpw wasn't it?).

Mark  That's a shame about the Kinvara 12, I've put almost 350 miles on my 11s in just 3 months  wearing them mostly for easy runs. I'd like them more but the toebox isn't ideal. It looks like I can still score some for around $60 so I may nab a second set since my Altra Torins are twice that price. .

        1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

Zebano - "Croquet" played that way can be some goofy fun.

It's mostly likely that I'll run CIM, but I'm going to make the final decision regarding which marathon to run very late - I have until the end of the month to cancel my room reservations in Tucson without cost.
It's possible I've largely fought off the bug DD3 picked up (and seems to have passed to DW), but I'm hoping to give the 10k all I have at the moment.
My issue with this weekend is that the final schedule for DD1s soccer tournament is out. No conflicts at all on Saturday, but we have to leave the house around 6:15am on Sunday to get to her first game that day. ~2.5 hours for my planned long run and that has me getting up and hitting the road at WAY too early. I might swap the race for the LR, or I might just suck it up. We'll see.

There's a big conversation on Slack going on at work over the Pakistan vs Australia cricket game.

CK - It's great you've got options.  Is Tucson as good as CIM for fast course and potential weather?

Australia won and will play New Zealand in the final on Sunday - one of the Pakistan players dropped a catch which likely would have won them the match and then Australia blasted 3 sixes to win...in baseball terms it's like dropping a fly ball in the bottom of the ninth and getting hit for a match losing 3 run home run on the next pitch.

Zebano - I find the Kinvara toebox super comfy but that's probably helped by the fact I size them up slightly to account for my feet being a bit wide.  12 is too narrow, 12.5 is perfect but hard to find, so I tend to end up with 13's.

Keen - hurray for free cancellation! That's like the first filter I use on my airbnb searches these days.  All the best for the 10k this weekend if you decide to run it, you're in great form at the moment.

Steve - honestly I'd rather be playing Pakistan.  They're one of those teams that can beat anyone on the day if they get a roll on but the odds on that happening are 1 in 4 at best.  And Conway breaking his hand has to be one of the great brain explosions in recent memory from an NZ cricketer.

Weather still looking pretty crap for tomorrow's 3000m so, while I'll still give it everything, I'm also viewing it more as a tune-up for the club track events, hopefully get another 3000m and a 1500m in before Xmas.  I haven't tested out the Dragonfly spikes yet so I'll just wear the Next's tomorrow night as it's just a group TT so no shoe restrictions.

Steve - Tucson should be quite good for weather, and is actually a faster course as it's more downhill. That also translates to greater potential for blowing up my quads trying to run fast, but it's still the best option I could find that weekend.

Mark - Free cancellation absolutely played in on my decision!
Best of luck in the 3000, regardless of weather.

Leaning more and more towards running the 10k and then sacrificing a night of sleep.

Best of luck to the Kiwis against AUS.

Well, the Athletics Auckland pre-Xmas schedule just got released and the first meet of the season next Sat (20th) has a 3000m so I guess this Sat really is a warm-up for that!  Helpfully it's at the local track about 10 mins from my house as well (and at least at this stage the weather forecast is looking considerably better than tomorrow's forecast!).

Yeah, I was hoping Pakistan would win.  I watched the full replay this morning and was pretty disappointed in the end.  Conway breaking his hand is a big blow.

Batting second is a big advantage in this tournament so winning the toss is rather important.

I’d rather play Pakistan too because of their propensity to choke, but I’d rather beat Australia.

I made some adjustment to my weekend plans after talking it over with my coach. Maybe a slightly longer warmup than originally planned, but still racing the 10k as hard as I can and then a long cooldown. No LR Sunday, just whatever recovery run I can get, so I won't hit quite the mileage I planned for to begin with, but it'll work just fine.

Thanks all.  I'm actively considering whether to wear the Dragonfly spikes instead given it's likely to rain more or less all day until the race.  I'll probably take both them and the VF's to the track and then make a call based on how wet the track looks.

I realise I may be inviting bad luck by "racing" in shoes I have never worn until now but it is a TT and a hit-out before next week's actual race!
