Mark - Thanks, that's good info.  I think my goal is reasonably conservative, so I hope to have a mostly good experience.  I did nearly roll my ankle once on a sharp turn but I adjusted and took it wider the next 3 times and it seemed okay.

piwi - Your night half, is it on a well lit course?  I always find it's difficult to judge my pace at night, often feels like I'm going faster than I am.

Steve its 4 laps of Marine Parade so probably not bad but yes same for me in the dark my lack of been able to assess terrain etc makes my body go into a different mode.

There are 5k and 10k run at the same time on the same course so could be lots of dodging. Also I'm not sure the roads are closed and we run anti clockwise loops.

The Endorphins look to have a pretty chunky stack height like the Vaporfly so that's probably the source of the awkward cornering.  They can be a little unstable on sharp turns (but more gradual corners like on the track are fine).  This isn't an issue on most road courses but I notice the Wellington course has 3 u-turns which you might need to be a bit careful on.  Having said that, u-turns are probably less of a problem since you basically have to slow right down anyways.

          Surely they'll get road closures if it's a multi-lapper with 5k and 10k too?

I think they probably are closed but residents may still be able to get in and out.

Ran down there today and street lights only on one side.

Rotorua Marathon this weekend which might take better runners away from my race.

            Winning times the last 3 years 1.15, 1.27, 1.20

So not the strongest and I could be up the pointy end 😕

I have 7 180 degree turns so hopefully my vaporfly will be ok but like you say probably ok as I will be basically just stopping and turning around.

Yeah sounds like there is some traffic management but they still have to allow residents through.  Don't forget there is Huntly Half Marathon too on Sun 16th - you could be up for a podium spot!  TBH I find it pretty motivating being up the front.  You don't always have others to run with but knowing you are up for a podium spot can provide a bit of extra motivation.

The VF's are fine for u turns because as you say you have to stop and turn.  It's just when you're trying to take sharp turns at speed that they feel unstable.

A u turn might cost 3 seconds.  So three across a marathon is 9 seconds.

If Steve get a Northerly gale, that will be 10+ minutes.

Haha, yeah there is potential for the weather to completely screw with that race and any targets. I’m holding out hope for a good day though. It will be behind me for a lot of it but that last approach to Roseneath is a killer. I imagine even worse with 37km under the belt

I have heard it said that you can't beat Wellington on a good day (they do happen sometimes).

Honestly, I'd still take Wanaka, but Wellington on a good day is still pretty good.

Mark Race report was a great read.  I took a look at Google maps and it does look like a beautiful place to for a race.

While getting ready for my run this morning I decided to do a 5k (fine, 5000m) time trial on the local track since the weather was calm and a bi cooler than it has been lately. Took out my old PR by one second or so - 18:24 finish time. I'm definitely pretty happy about this given my mileage yesterday and over the past week, plus in general just having 3 real workouts in the past couple months.
