James - Looks like you're having some good runs. Six weeks is still time if you want to get longer runs in. AG wins are always something to be happy about. You can't control who shows up.
Mark - I know what you mean about being sluggish the week after a race. No surprise you have family stuff, given the recent addition.
Mick - Enjoy the traveling. Maybe the change of scenery will help your legs.
Darkwave - I hope the race went well for you. Seems like a lot of people had a good day; hopefully you were one of them.
Watson - I hope the glute is doing better and you've been able to do some of the running you were hoping for.
HCK - Nice work a week ago. I hope last week was good too.
A step back week for me. Next week will be peak mileage. We're finally getting some cooler, autumn weather here. 56.3 miles / 90.6km / 9:45:16. The highlight of the week was this morning when my kid asked if he could run with me (he generally prefers to run alone because he's faster than me), so the first half of my "easy" 10-miler was more strenuous than the training plan would have liked but some things are more important.
5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)Upcoming race(s): Turkey Trot, 11/25; Hangover 5k, 1/1
Mother of Cats
Fred - good choice on running with son.
Steve - good luck to your partner.
Nice week James.
Thanks to all for the good luck vibes. I was satisfied with it.

JamesD, nice week. I looked up alligators and seems like they would stay away from the humans. I guess it also depends if they get used to people? Every so often there are the pictures or videos of one strolling through a golf course. Here the deer don't care too much about people and I can get about 8 feet away, talking to them & trying to shoo them before they run off. I would not get that close to an alligator.
Steve, hope your partner's recovery goes well & that you didn't mention how well it times to your race calendar.
Fred, wow, your race is coming up soon.
Darkwave, congrats on the race! Nice to be satisfied with the results. The logistics sound super frustrating. Do you fly out of BWI or pick among the 3 airports?
Hot Weather Complainer
darkwave - Really enjoyed your race report - you overcame quite a few issues to get a good result so there's heaps to be proud of there. I'd say way more individual issues than most marathoners ever deal with. Interesting method to deal with the cramp, something I'll take on board for my next attempt (if it happens close enough to the finish to get there).
Half Crazy - Ha! No she's not sensitive about things which is very refreshing. She knows I'd likely have cancelled the Melbourne trip if her surgery had been confirmed then and obviously I'm doing everything for her for up to 4 weeks (including looking after her horse which is WAY out of my comfort zone).
5km: 18:34 11/23 │ 10km: 39:10 8/23 │ HM: 1:26:48 9/23 │ M: 3:34:49 6/23
Upcoming Races:
Motorway Half Marathon February 25, 2024
Christchurch Marathon April 21, 2024
Steve - Best wishes for your partner's surgery and your venture into horse care.
Darkwave - Congratulations on your race, even if a little slower than what you hoped for. Given the trials you've been through this year, I think you got a pretty good result on Sunday.
Those who use a watch with a wrist heart rate monitor, do you that long sleeves interfere with the readings? I wear mine fairly tight and when I have sleeves over it, I get crazy high readings.
For me, it depends on the thickness of the sleeves. Also, mine is notoriously unreliable. Mine once spiked 20bpm while I was running so I took it completely off my wrist for five minutes and it continued to report a heart rate, which makes me wonder whether what it reports when I'm wearing it is similarly fabricated data rather than a true reading.
JamesD
Sounds like it's the horse who may need the best wishes.

Nothing special
I do have issues with the reading of HRM in two situations. Sometimes after very sharp hairpin turns the watch goes into cadence lock. Happens from January to December. Why? No idea. More often I've got issues with readings that are too high while wearing sleeves. From what I understand this occurs not because of the long sleeves, but because of the weather I'm wearing long sleeves in. Running in cold weather reduces blood flow to the skin, thereby confusing the optical sensor. Results: cadence lock. Wearing gloves might help.
Sick and tired. A little.
Ooohhhhh, I think #2 may be it. It tends to start being an issue around this time of year when mornings are chilly.
Does cadence lock ever occur at a rate other than cadence? Sometimes my watch's HRM will get stuck in a certain range that I'm sure is not my HR, but isn't my cadence either.
Fair. So far she's stayed fed and warm or cool as required. Only mishap was when she stood on my toes this morning. I now have 2 black toes (to match the toenails) but thankfully nothing broken and couldn't feel it too much on my run this morning.
Well, it wouldn't be cadence lock then, right? But I get what you mean - sometimes, but very rarely, my HRM will show readings like 196 or 184 (pick a random number above 180, my HRmax is an estimated 178) even during an easy or moderate run. I have no idea why.
Right, not truly cadence lock, but locked in on something else. Sometimes, my heart rate graph will be a line sloping up from left to right, then flattening out - again, the watch just fabricating data.
I can get that when I'm near an electric/distribution transformer, which are typically mounted up high on poles here.
