I enjoyed the Berlin Marathon a lot, so my new goal is to run a great memorable Marathon per year but more as a tourist than for competitive reasons. We shall see.
Mick - Sounds like a great idea, though maybe the competitive urge will surface once you cross the start line.
With three days to go, and given it's been consistent, I think I can start to trust Sunday's forecast. Looking at 56º to start, going up to 61º (13C - 16C) with moderate humidity and low winds of about 5 mph (8kph). The one thing that's been variable is the cloud cover, but - oh well. The temperature is a bit warm for me, but it could be so much worse that I'll gladly run in that weather.
5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)Upcoming race(s): Turkey Trot, 11/25; Hangover 5k, 1/1

It will draw the crowds to the streets and seems like perfect PR weather (no pressure)!!! You will have a great time I am sure.
And yes absolutely correct - once I cross the startline I am in beast mode haha. But....if I don't plan on taking it too serious, I won't obsess over missing some workouts during the training block. I believe that's already a big win.
Fred - those conditions sound pretty good. Good luck. I also hope the pre-race waiting, logistics etc. aren't tiring too.
PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)
40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018), full 3:13:55 (Sep 2022)
Thanks.
It's a hurry-up-and-wait kind of thing. 5:15 am drive to the bus (will feel like 6:15 due to the time change), then an hour ride to the start area. Then 2+ hours of waiting, which I've now learned to use for relaxation (I'll take a plastic garbage bag to put on the ground so I can lie down without getting damp). The main thing will be to stay hydrated and fueled in the 5 hours between when I get up and when I cross the start line.
Hot Weather Complainer
Good luck Fred! Definitely sounds like good conditions, especially after what was served up last year.
Mick - Yep, she's much better with every day. It's 4 weeks now - the first 2 were pretty rough and also had work + study. Ended up taking some time off work when it got a bit much. Light is at the end of the tunnel now though, she doesn't need me to do quite as much and 6 days until the last exam. And yep, I crushed the first one, my first ever 100% on a 3 hour exam! It was computer science so you found out if each question was correct in real time.

Thanks. Yes, so very much better than last year.
Nothing special
Good luck to you, Fred. Have an extraordinary day! May the weather gods be with you.
Sick and tired. A little.
Mother of Cats
Good luck Fred! Is there a bib # you can share? (sorry if I missed it)
Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.
And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
All the best Fred! My brother is running too. It will be his first marathon.

"CONSISTENCY IS KING"
My week done and dusted. Malaysia (coming into rainy season) was super humid as expected... I ventured outside for one run in KLCC Park but otherwise stuck to the hotel treadmill. Didn't get much time for sightseeing given there was a pretty packed agenda, but my hotel room was on the 25th floor, overlooking KLCC Park and looking directly at Petronas Tower so that was pretty cool. The food and hospitality were great, only downside was my flight out was late so although I made my connection in Singapore back to Auckland, my bag didn't - although it did arrive on my doorstep less than 24 hours later. Very impressed with Singapore Airlines - between sorting that efficiently and their very friendly and helpful flight attendants, I would go out of my way to fly with them again.

I'll probably cross the start line around 9:50 am eastern standard time (we set the clocks back tonight).
Darkwave, Josh, Mark - thanks. :-)

Good luck, Fred! I hope it helps to be on the right side of the time change. At least you'll get an extra hour of sleep.
Steve - Glad your partner is doing better. Hope the horse is ok.
Please excuse the following whining, but I’m getting really tired of having a new issue every week. Was sneezing a lot last weekend, and it turned into sinus trouble that kept me in bed from Monday (after a surprisingly decent run) through Wednesday. Last November something similar morphed into a chest issue, maybe bronchitis, just before my goal half, so I suppose it’s better that this happened sooner this year. I did turn a planned 5-mile tempo Friday, which would’ve been my longest this year, into a 3-mile one. Pace was ok, & I felt reasonably strong, but my lungs hurt afterwards, so we’ll see how things go. At least last week’s issue, my back, is doing better.
I’m also having the same sort of pre-half uncertainty that I had last year. Found out today that the poorly organized half I ran last year has been postponed to next March. My options are:
Sun - 44 minutes swimming
Mon - 8.3 miles in park PM @ 8:32
Tues-Weds - off sick
Thurs - 4 miles very slow treadmill (48:15) + 0:40 walk breaks/6 mins
Fri - 6.3 miles in park PM including 3 @ 7:04
Sat - 6.2 miles in park PM @ 8:56
Total - 25.1 miles
YTD Average - 36.6 mpw
Post-1987 PRs: Half 1:30:14 (2019); 10K 39:35 (2019); 5K 19:12 (2017); Mile 5:37.3 (2020)
'23 Goals: health; consistency; age-graded PRs; half < 1:30
James - Sorry, I don't know what would be best.
Mark - really nice week given the travel. Good you got your bags back.
Fred - good luck.
My week was pretty good. It's below (plus one mobility and strength session). ParkRun went pretty well, my aim was to sneak under 21:00. I just missed out. It was pretty much where I thought I was. I managed to negative split (by 2s), which is the first race I have negative split for ages.
Fred’s through halfway at 2:04:15. Seems to be slowing slightly, though I don’t know if that’s due to hills or rising temperatures.
I've been tracking several people today - have only seen positive splits. It was perfect weather here in DC, but I understand that NYC was actually warmer than we were this morning, so my hunch is that heat is becoming a factor.
James - I'm sorry about the continued run of bad luck. With regard to the race choices, it seems to me that you could pick 2 of the 3. I don't see why you couldn't race a half-marathon in November, and then another in early January. So then the choice is just between next weekend or Turkey day.
Marky_Mark - business travel always sounds exciting until you realize that you're just in a conference room all day.
