Mick - XC Skiing is amazing crosstraining. Just sayin Wink Enjoy your trip.

HKC - I didn't catch that all your running was on the treadmill. ugg that's some mental fortitude.

My weekend is being interrupted by my kid's scout troop so I'm going to try and squeeze my long run in at the last minute on Sunday.

        1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

        Half Crazy K 2.0

Zebano, the treadmill is temporary.  There should be enough light starting the first week of February to run outside before work. It's also so much easier from a laundry standpoint.

Ran with only a little discomfort today, which is a big improvement.  We'll see how I feel at the trail run tomorrow.

              Fred - good news!

Steve - glad to hear it went well. I've used contacts for years and honestly it'd be nice not to have to deal with them or glasses, but with another kid on the way you can bet that's not top of the capital expenditure priority list right now.

Me - finished my week a little early as I'll take Sunday as a rest day instead (going to a friend's wedding tonight).  Longest LR in 6 months this morning and actually felt pretty good... the fastest km was an uphill one right at the end.  And boy... I'm really loving the Fuelcell Rebel as a long run shoe.  They're super comfortable but also really fun and kinda bouncy.

Still not back to normal after my illnesses & layoff, but increasing my mileage at least.  My quads and glutes are a bit sore, but that’s typical when I’m coming back from time off.

Half - where do you live again? Is the morning light due to visibility for you running, or is more just feeling safer when it's light?

Mark - nice week. Is that the v2 or v3 for the FuelCell Rebel? I bought them last year, but there was a size issue and had to return. it had US 11 on the tags but it was much smaller.

James - nice week, be careful post illness.

                  Mick - have fun skiing.

                  Darkwave - nice RR.

Fred - I hope the trail run went well.

Zebano - sorry to a PITA, but can you add to front page me for Trentham ParkRun, Sat 20 Jan, aim 20:30, result 21:30 please?

My week was OK. Two strength training workouts on Mon & Fri.

                  Wednesday intervals went pretty well.

The Fri strength workout definitely took spring out of my legs for Saturday ParkRun, I was hoping for 20:30 with two weeks prior having done 20:37 - first km was 4:02 which was a bit slow and sluggish and then I just fell away from there.

These days my road long runs are intended steasy pace (4:41 to 5:10 per km) (except hilly km's).  I managed steasy for 13km, and then I hit the hill and post the hill paces were a struggle.

Hopefully just some short term fatigue.

Watson, I live outside of Baltimore, Maryland. I took a hard fall a few years ago running in the dark (had Knuckelights) and decided it wasn;t really worth it. Once February comes, twilight starts around the time I usually start running, so baring ice, I can run outside. That's tough running a 5k after stregnth training.

                      Watson - they're the v3's.  I never tried the v2.

20 miles running and 7 hours and 20 minutes of pool-running.

                        M: 90 minutes pool-running
                        T: 60 minutes pool-running.

                        Th: 90 minutes pool-running.
F: Streaming yoga and 6 miles very easy (9:37)
Sa: 10.5 miles very easy (9:23) plus drills and two hill strides; followed with upper body weights/core.
Su: 3.5 miles easy (9:36) plus drills and two strides, followed by 1:50 pool-running.

The first half of the week was recovery, with just social pool-running. I recovered really quickly from Houston - I suspect a lot of that is because my neurological issues were the limiter rather than my aerobic system or legs. I wasn't able to max myself out, and so I bounced back faster than I would otherwise have.

Starting on Friday morning I swapped neuro meds - I had been on the generic version of a drug called Sinemet - a blend of the drugs carbidopa and levodopa. I swapped to a drug called Rytary, which is also carbidopa and levodopa, just a higher dose and delivered as extended release (meaning it doesn't wear off as quickly).

I have only been on Rytary a few days, but it has felt amazing from the first time I took it. I'm pushing off with my calves and toes when I run again, and my legs feel ridiculously bouncy. I can mostly tell where/when my feet are relative to the ground again, which makes running a lot easier and more enjoyable.

So I'm really excited for what this means for me both generally and running-wise. We will see what this week brings.

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

HCK - I get not wanting to run in the dark, especially after a fall.  I once rolled my ankle on a rock I didn't see and wound up with a hairline fracture, so there are definitely more hazards to consider.

Watson - Nice running, and I understand what you said about post-hill miles being harder, especially near the end of a long run.  I just ordered some Fuel Cell Rebels - now I'm hoping they'll fit.

James - Good mileage and progress in your comeback.

Mark - Hope you enjoyed the wedding.  I find it interesting that you use the Fuel Cell Rebels for long runs since they were recommended to me as track/speed work shoes.

Zebano - Did you get your post-scouting LR done?  I agree with you about XC skiing, though lately I haven't had many opportunities.

Mick - I saw the 14-peaks documentary.  It was really something.  Also cool when the mountaineering community lobbied the Chinese government to change their mind.  Do you ski downhill or XC?

CCoakley - Clever use of running to get out of the house.

Keen - When's the marathon you're building back up for?  Sorry to hear of your pattern of getting sick afterwards.

DW - Really encouraging news on the change in meds.  Good to hear!

                          Waltons ThreadLord

My week was abbreviated due to skipping track work on Tuesday and the Thursday pace run, thus giving myself 3 days off from running to help my knee/hip issue get better, so I got 28½ miles / 46km done.

The good news is the rest seems to have helped.  My 10 mile long run today was pretty much pain free, though I had some aches afterwards.  Yesterday's trail run was mostly good news.  You may recall I just missed finishing in under an hour two weeks ago, but yesterday I finished the same course in 58:57, which was a great feeling.  On the other hand, a small 13-year-old girl who finished 3½ minutes behind me two weeks ago was just 10 seconds behind me this time.  At that rate, she'll be well ahead of me at the next race in two weeks...

Mickjogger - someone needs to figure out a conversion for skiing to running miles.  It's gotta count as crosstraining.

I'm feeling the higher mileage this week so forgoing a workout but energy levels still seem good.  I probably would have cut some of my runs the past few days shorter but my inlaws were visiting and I didn't want to miss out on time out of the house.

OK, I LOLed at that one....

James - good luck with the comeback.

Watson - I would think it would be very hard to race a 5K well the day after strength-training.

Fred- I hope your knee/hip is improving.

Half-CrazyI totally get your comment about treadmills being easier on laundry.  I'll often use my treadmill time to run in shorts with no pockets, or sportsbras that have a slightly less coverage than I would like for outside.

Zebano - you can put me down for the One City Half-Marathon on March 5.    I am also planning on the Brooklyn Half-Marathon in May, but I am not sure if I'm racing that one.

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

Mark, that's a serious LR for someone to claims to be done with marathons.

James, that seems like a solid weekly mileage for you.  Are you trying to build higher?

Watson, your week has a little bit of everything.  Do you do the parkruns every week?

DW, glad to hear the recovery is going so quickly and very promising on the new medication.  Where is One City?

Fred, glad the rest helped.  At this rate you'll be racing 5 yr olds by the summer

My week went well.  I wasn't planning on any workouts but life happened Thurs and left me with a very short 25 min window to run while waiting for the school bus so I took advantage of the steep but very short hill(1/2 block) and did some mini hill sprints.  Then I felt good in my LR and decided to throw in some best guess MP miles to see how realistic it felt.

I'm taking a break from Strava for an undetermined length of time so you won't see me there for a bit.
