The website still has the same date for 2009. http://www.lamarathon.com/ Will the date change only affect 2010 and later? I like the idea of a Monday race (President's Day) but then I haven't made travel plans either. Big grin

It's official...the date changes in 2009. The completion of the sale takes place Monday 9/22/08, the website will change then.

I've ran LA a couple of times before boycotting that ridiculous course point to point course they went to a couple years back. Don't make me quote myself: starting the LA marathon in the valley is like starting the OC marathon in the 909... Even worse, the 2nd half of the course going through the industrial wastelands of east LA, climbing some random hills and then a trip through skid row on your way to the finish. After running NYC and Boston and seeing what happens when a city embraces a marathon, I've been of the opinion that LA doesn't deserve a marathon. Devine was a bunch of idiots of who severely overpaid for that race. I'm hoping the McCourt group will be able to fix it. As for the date, President's Day (the third Monday in Feb?) is an interesting choice. If the race start and end downtown they are going to have more trouble with the businesses that don't take the day off than they had with the churches on Sunday. Also, special memo to the church goers. God will forgive you if you come out and cheer on the marathoners one Sunday a year (he told me personally).

arc918, Amen brother...it all comes down to $$$ and McCourt has bought several of the city council people including former Police Chief Bernard Parks. Its all a bunch of BS...the LA marathon will never be on the same level as NYC or Boston. Cant wait to hear all of the complaints from the people that work downtown that will be affected by all of the closures.

              Jazz hands!

More importantly, will the billboards still be as awesome? I loved the Baywatch ones and if they'd sold "Run, [neighborhood], Run!" posters I would have bought one.
run run run AHHHHHH run run run
Any more buzz on LA? I haven't seen anything in the LA Times yet. I really hope they can get it together, pick a good date and layout a course that give the best of what LA has to offer instead of a course of "least resistance." Also, give us a decent start time - no later than 7:30.

So far there is just the rumor that they're changing to President's day. No talk of new course or new start time. (((arc918)))

                        Jon 3:16!
not with this damn hamstring - I may have to head back up to CIM and see what I can do also - those assclowns at LA need a get a decent start corral system in place - I know a guy who "ran" a 7+ hour yet managed to start less than 2 minutes off the gun - he must have gotten passed by 13,000 people during the race...

very interesting - I think they need a course change way more than they need a date change... found the LA Times story finally http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition/la-sp-marathon18-2008sep18,0,7997868.story
