    Mikkey I remember you telling me your sight hadn't suffered the usual degeneration that most of us get in the late 40s.

    I can't read 3 data screens it's too blurry. 2 I can just.

    How do you other oldies manage with your sight and viewing your watches ?

    There is a bigger font 3 field view on my fenix that I switched to. I'm sure I'll need to switch to 2 fields at some point. The whole read text or email on the watch, lol, nope. Can't get my arm far enough from my face.

      How do you other oldies manage with your sight and viewing your watches ?

       

      I don't look at my watch very much.  Problem solved.

      Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

       

      And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

        I also still use a 235, and can see the 3 fields it displays.

        I had LASIK in 2002 to correct my distance vision. Since then I've had reading glasses for computer screens and closer. LASIK allowed me to ditch the contacts I usually wore and the bifocals/graduated-lens glasses for when I didn't have contacts in. I still had reading glasses, but they were drug-store variety so a lot cheaper than full prescription lenses.


        That was fine until a couple of years ago when I started to develop cataracts and deal with glaucoma (inherited from my mother, it seems). That weakened my distance vision, but I could still see the numbers.

        Earlier this year I had cataract surgery. It's truly amazing what they can do with artificial lens now; my vision is now back to 20:20 or better at distance and mid-range. I have some weak reading glasses that I rarely need. for fine print at very short range.

          Dave/Piwi - I also don't care for all the new spyware features, but you both would immensely benefit from the higher resolution and better display tech (AMOLED) of a Garmin Venu, even at the same screen size. Like a certain forumite and poet would say, it's like the difference between chalk and cheese 😁, you'd simply see much better. I'm not saying you should go out and buy it, just that newer tech can be useful to you guys.

           

          Longboat/Piwi - My wife also had the laser surgery to correct 5 degrees of myopia, she was like legally blind before LOL now she sees just fine. What's most impressive is that she chose to stay with me now that she has 20/20 vision 😂🤠

            Longboat I'm terribly sorry to hear that. Hope your recovery is as quick as possible.

             

            Oh, my new Garmin 965 arrived yesterday. It's awesome! Big AMOLED screen, bright and crisp, so many more details available. Garmin's software is greatly improved, and it picked up the GPS signal instantly.

             

            Zebano - Not sure if you read this thread, but I'm making good progress on the strength training side of things. Last Friday I did 25/15/10 deadlifts with 50kg/110lb, but a couple of variations to make it harder, first don't let the weight touch the ground, and second do it VERY slowly and controlled, about 7 or 8 seconds per rep.

             

            That's interesting, those are very slow reps. I might try that. I like doing the eccentric phase slow and the concentric phase fast. I'm assuming you've probably heard this flavio but there have been studies showing that the eccentric phase probably causes the most "damage" and therefore the most gains. I like doing the concentric phase quickly because I'm fairly certain the gains from that are more neuromuscular. Not unlike the gains from strides and speedwork.

              Mikkey sorry to hear about your dad. I've been taking a pill called vision fx but no miracles yet 

              I think you were blessed with good eyes.

               

              Longboat that must have felt amazing getting your vision back.

              DW yeah I've changed to barely knowing what pace I've run till I get home.

               

              Flavio that watch tech sounds great. I hear some watches take into account track now too to make it more accurate.

               

              Half crazy you are on that slippery slope too with your eyes.

                      Dave you sound like me watching your pennies  I still wear cheap reading glasses and have never been to an optometrist. My garmin 235 was 2nd hand too.

                       

                      My week. Managed to get it done despite moving furniture to ready the house for carpet. Garage is done, yes we poor people carpet our garages  and house hopefully next week. Currently living on bare concrete.

                      Long run today went well with 2 mates although one guy hit the wall with 3kms to go. I drove back to get him but he managed to get going again.

                      8k tempo Tuesday was really good and much faster than it felt.

                        Piwi - yes I’m a cheap bastard too, I wear drugstore reading glasses and have exactly one pair. However I’ve been going to the optometrist regularly my whole life. I started wearing glasses for nearsightedness at age 10, and have become basically completely blind (Rx is around -10.00). I’ve been wearing contact lenses for nearly 40 years, and they work fine. I asked my eye doc about LASIK; he said “oh you’ll need cataract surgery eventually, so don’t bother.” Thanks for the good news...??

                          Mark - Sounds like a good time for a winter break.  I hope everything goes extremely smooth for you and your wife this week.

                           

                          Garmin - I still have a Forerunner 45, 6 years old now.  It does the job but I can see signs it may force me to upgrade soon.  The GPS has issues more often now.

                           

                          My week - Good solid week with 2 sharpening workouts.  Not as light as previous cycles but my legs feel really good.  Now I head into another race week.  I'm looking forward to this one.  There will be no big previews or strategy posts, since my plan was to be relaxed and see what happens.  I'll stick with that approach.  I will say I'm in better shape than the previous 2 - Melbourne I was pretty exhausted for a few weeks around the peak of the cycle, and Christchurch I was sick 2 weeks out, and moved house.  So fingers crossed, nothing unexpected happens this week (I know, fate tempted).

                              Mmerkle - I did hear about that. We're working with a personal trainer though, I just follow his instructions 😁

                               

                              Mark - Yup, and also those watches have a much higher resolution, like 416x416 as opposed to the usual 240x180, it's like 4x more pixels.

                               

                              Dave - the Venu sq 2 is 249 (It has a square screen though), and the Venu 2 is 299. The cheapest watch is the Forerunner 55, which is 199. If I were in the market for an upgrade, I'd certainly put 100 extra and get the one with the AMOLED screen and the much higher resolution, especially since it's gonna last you 9 or 10 years 😂 . My last argument is that it's much cheaper to upgrade your watch then get that cataract surgery 😂

                               

                              Piwi - It's interesting that you choose carpet, that never seems to be the choice here in Europe or back in Brazil.

                               

                              Steve - You're doing everything right, just keep at it. In 7 days you're gonna run that 42k long run and it will all be fine.

                                Interesting...I’ve really only ever looked at the Forerunner models. I’ll have to see what’s missing from the Venu. Otherwise you make some excellent arguments.
