Forums >Racing>Sub-20 Goal for 5k (2012)
Over in the 2011 thread, MichiganFlyer suggested that somebody else start the 2012 thread for folks who will be attempting to run sub-20 in the 5k this year, so I'm taking him up on it.
I ran 21:12 in October, and I've been running pretty consistently lately, so I'm planning to get there in 2012.

It should be mathematical, but it's not.
I'm in. Ran 20:57 last year, so I think this is realistic.
First crack at it will be on January 28, SPSP 5k in San Diego.

I am in! This is the first goal on my list for 2012. Current PR is 21:02.
2018 Goals
Figure out the achilles thing...... and THEN try to get running regularly again.
No racing goals
Sign me up! In November I set my current PR at 21:11. I don't have my first 5k scheduled yet but I'm sure I'll have a handful of opportunities to go for the sub-20 in 2012.
CliveF (race TBD)
This was a goal in 2011, but an injury derailed things. Back on track now (hehe) and hoping for big things in the coming year!

I'm in! Ran a 5K a couple of weeks ago in 20:35, so this is definitely on my list for 2012. Current PR from 2009 is 19:29. Right now, I'm about 3 months into coming back from a six month layoff. I've done some base building, and now I'm in week 3 of a Daniels plan, trying to build some speed since I've never done much speed work. Will do a HM in March, but I don't expect that to interfere with the 5K effort or vice versa.
I'm in! 20:05 last Saturday. Going to run a Half Marathon on 3/18 and I'm hoping that will force me to get higher weekly miles for a late Spring attempt.
Thanks for starting the thread Troy!

I'm interested. I ran 19:59 early in 2010 and have been fighting injury ever since. Things are getting better, as I was able to run a 21:24 last weekend. I probably won't be focusing on this until summer or fall.
Thanks for doing this, Troy.
Not at it at all.

... and me.
I ran 20:42 in 2011 having chopped 3 mins off over the course of the season. No goal race in mind, just generally getting fitter and faster and hoping that that will carry over into faster times at all distances. Last year was my first proper foray into quality work and I probably have a lot to learn about optimising quality workouts, but I found mile intervals at a controlled pace, steady tempo run at threshold and some 400s worked fairly well.
Winter so far is base building with only one session per week of tempo work as part of a bike/run brick.
I'm in too. Best 5K 2011 was 21:16 First 5K will be in April. Thanks.

Last Race: Portland Maine Half Marathon October 5 2014
Sign me up. My so called "PR" of 21:56 was set by deciding to run hard the last 2.1 of a 3.1 run around the neighborhood.
I'm training for a March marathon and hope to take that base into some shorter races in the spring/summer.

I am probably going to give it a whirl (again). I have been trying for the last 2 yrs. Best I've done is 21:00.

I've posted this before, but it's worth posting again.
It was not directed at me, but the advice in this post was very helpful in getting me to my sub 20.

I'm in too! My pr is 20:51 from this past June. I'm looking to up my mileage over the next couple months for a spring half and I'm hoping that will get me to sub 20 for the Hillsborough Hop on June 5th.
2015 Goal:For now, keep running!
