kcam i've also decided i'm out for CIM, but do i want to officially defer and therefore pay $49 to commit to dec 2020 marathon already? not sure....  mightve only paid $100 to enter since i registered early on, so just gonna eat that and move on.

I think I paid about right around $90-100 or so as I did the "re-run special" on Dec 3rd 2018 (day after the race!).  I went ahead and plunked down the deferral fee as it gives me something to strive for in 2020.  I really do want to get back into decent marathon shape.

I am thinking about running the XC championships in GG Park on November 17.  It'd be my first XC race this year as I haven't run any real races since my mishap in June.  I feel like I'm beginning to round back into shape though I'm slower than molasses.   I don't think I'd totally embarrass myself out there and I always love racing the GG Park XC course.

Dwave - I'm so so sorry to hear that.

Cars seem to be getting worse and worse.. about a month ago my friend and I were almost hit by a car that just wasn't fucking looking and we had to scream to get him to stop. This morning's run wasn't much better, and it's super annoying.

Still running over here.. I'm hopefully going to be up to 35 mpw. I think I've settled on Phoenix marathon in February, and seems like it'll go fine since as of last weekend I;m up to 15 miles.

Hi guys - just a quick check in to let you know I'm alive.  Just too busy with doctor's appts and all the other stuff I have to deal with as a result of this.  Richmond is a maybe at this point - all depends on what happens with the shoulder over the next week.

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.

dw - are you able to use your arm now?  I wouldn't mess with a marathon unless that was 100% recovered.
Even mostly recovered may still slightly alter your form and that's not good.  Just be careful.  Healing vibes from the West Coast ...

katia -  The cars are actually getting better and better!  It's the drivers who are getting worse and worse!   This doesn't need to be said but never, ever assume a motor vehicle will yield to a runner even if we have the right of way.  The closest calls I've had are when I'm standing at a traffic light waiting for the 'walk' light to turn on so I can cross.  The drivers turning right are looking to their left for cars, not to their right (where I am).  When the light changes and it's my turn to cross - I don't!  I look at the right-turning car to make sure he/she see's I'm crossing and stops, then I go. Many times they don't even see me there and just go.  My running buddy gets all pissed off and bangs on hoods and doors of the cars.  It doesn't anger me as I just always expect them to go when they shouldn't.

DW: So sorry to hear that. People are terrible drivers and I have found myself in many situations recently when I could have been hit.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, and a speedy marathon whenever you're able to run one!

Absolutely agreed.  I'm not going to race a marathon unless I have a good chance of running the race I trained to run and not getting injured while doing it.  Your compensation injury is one concern, another is turning a shoulder injury that doesn't require surgery into one that does.  I'm not going to run if that is a risk.

I have a friend/teammate who is a PT - she gave me some exercises and a quick rehab plan.  She also gave me a referral to her orthopedist friend, who is a team physician for the USWNST and a shoulder specialist.  I got checked out there yesterday, and have a follow-up next week to evaluate whether I can run Richmond next Saturday the 15th.

THERE we go! This is the darkwave I'd expect to be out there. Focused on recovery, not increasing the injury, and moving forward instead of falling into a deep dark downward spiral of "woe is me." GET IT GIRL!

EDIT: My inner thigh soreness/tightness seems insignificant to your recent injury with a month until MY race day and you having been tapered and ready to go.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

The journalist for the Cain story, Lindsay Crouse, is on our track club.

She also did that story on Nike cutting off contracts for track athletes who got pregnant.

...and she's got street cred with a 2:57 at CIM last year.

She wouldn't be taking his drugs. She is probably a bigger Adidas fan than Nike too.

rov apparently she also wrote about the NCAA allowing players to (officially and publically) profit on their performances and names.

Drew Howard ran for Oregon in 2015 then switched to Adidas 8 months later so I'd be interested to read about his experiences.

Thanks guys.  For the record, I'm pretty sure I'm on all the same asthma drugs as Galen Rupp, so there you go....

I also run in a mix of Adidas (Adios 1 Boost, Adios 2 Boost, Takumi Sen) and Nike (Free, Streak 6, OG VF, VF Next%) plus the Mizuno Sayonara and the Skechers Go Meb Speed.  So a shoe brand polyamorist.

Rovatti - good to see you putting up solid weeks!

                              My (very odd) week:

23 miles, 500 yards recovery swimming, 60 minutes of pool-running, 2 hours of elliptical/arc-training, and a buncha rehab exercises.
                              M: DIY yoga and 60 minutes pool-running.
                              T: 7 miles, including a track workout of 3x800 in 2:58, 2:54, 2:52. Recoveries of 2:13 and 2:28. Followed with 500 yards recovery swimming.
W: 3.5 miles very easy (8:54) with an abrupt ending. X-rays.
Th: Off, except for more x-rays and some rehab exercises
F: 60 minutes on the arc-trainer, including 4x3:00 hard with 1:00 recovery - mostly with arms clasped in front of me. Also some careful leg strengthwork.
Sa: 2.5 miles very easy (8:43) and then 60 minutes on the elliptical at easy run effort with arms resting on handles.
Su: 10 miles - first 5 averaging 8:19, second 5 averaging 7:08. Then some careful leg strengthwork.

Hope is that I may be able to pull off Richmond next Saturday - shoulder is improving everyday.  Today's run wasn't pain free, but felt better than the 2.5 on Saturday.

I've managed to get a hotel room and shifted my planned vacation from bookending Indy to bookending Richmond.  (kinda a funny email to send:  "hi everyone, I was hit by a truck yesterday, so I'm not taking my vacation any more and am back online until next week, when I'll hopefully take it.....")

                              From the Internet.

Fingers crossed for the shoulder to heal up quickly dwave!

                                Ya girl is back!

Monday - 4x 1 mi tempo/90 sec recovery; 6:57 (GPS weirdness), 6:43 (bit of downhill), 6:53 (long gentle uphill), 6:38 (feeling GREAT, turning on the burners a bit on a long flat stretch). 10 miles total.

Tuesday - 7+ easy miles, my GPS was wonky at the beginning after a Garmin update.

Wednesday - first indoor track practice of the season! 3 sets of 600/400/200, short jog (<200m) between reps and longer jog (<400 m) between sets. I did a terrible job lapping my watch at the end of each rep but was in the right ballpark even though I don't remember exact splits. 2:23ish/92 maybe?/41ish, 2:15ish/86?/41?, 2:14ish/84/39 or 40?

                                Thursday - 7 easy miles

Friday - 8.72 easy with a friend who was in town for the weekend

Saturday - parkrun on a hilly/partial-trail course. 20:56 and first female; bodes well for a solid sub-20 attempt on a flat road course on 12/1! Watch was nearly dead at the end so no GPS data for cooldown - mileage for the day was probably like 6 or 6.5ish.

Sunday - 11 mile "long" run, would have liked to get more like 14 but didn't get out the door early enough before the kid's last soccer game of the season. Legs felt good, first few miles nice and slow and then low 8's for the remainder.

55ish miles total for the week.
