Never carry water on any of your runs - it makes you soft and make you look like an american...

I'd hate for someone to confuse me for an American. Especially for one of those backwards ones from the middle of that country.

All last year I went without water for runs less than 16 miles. I didn't notice any problems during the runs because of it, but catching back up on my hydration during the rest of the day was a challenge at times.

Always temperature dependent on water. But a run of 15 miles without water if it's TDP of 150 is rough. I generally could get 11 miles done regardless of condition.

Shout out for my coach Ben Schneider who uses runningahead and is in my track club. He is great, weekly schedules, and we check in after workouts on splits and how it felt so he can plan the next week. Very reasonable price. Has USATF couching certifications. Knows his stuff.

I know you won't believe me, but the last time I drunk some vodka was in 2011 when I visited Russia. There is something about being in Russia physically that causes you to want to drink alcohol right after you disembarked the plane . Seriously, not kidding - I came to the States in 2007 and drank only on rare occasions but then I came back to Russia in 2011 for a few months and I just started to drink like crazy .

I hate carrying water.  Just annoying having it slosh around.

I definitely couldn't go as long as Keen without water in summer.  I could get 8 or 9 miles for a workout, maybe 11 at easy pace, but beyond that I'd definitely need a drink.  Even in winter I generally need water once I hit around 15 miles or so.

All the public facilities here are starting to reopen now we're in a looser lockdown.  Auckland is having pretty much its worst drought ever though (dam levels 30% below normal) so the Council aren't turning the water fountains back on yet.  Personally I think this is a soft excuse because flushing a public toilet uses WAY more water than a drinking fountain and those are all open again.  There's still one fountain that somehow escaped being turned off around the back of my favourite Hobsonville Point loop though.  Most of my long runs go past that at least once haha.

I might just lap it tomorrow, the running down there is really great.  We are mostly still working from home but can go into the office if needed, I might have to go in to have a run on Tamaki Drive and remember what it feels like to do an entirely flat run again.

Yeah Piwi and JMac - those workout paces are actually slower than the Robertson's HM pace!  They hold the two fastest marathon times in NZ history.

That's stereotyping - why necessarily vodka? There are plenty of alcohol choices in Russia.

Not the roadkill pukeko I saw a few weeks ago though.  Probably live animals would be preferable.

Water - I don't carry any with me on long or regular runs, but I never go longer than about two hours.  On tempos and workouts, I'll have a few swallows of Gatorade after warming up and a few more before cooling down.

This week was all easy base work again, and it went pretty well.  Unlike when I was increasing my mileage in January & February, my legs weren’t too tired for strides on my easy days.  My Reebok Pantheas arrived yesterday, and my knees were sore after walking around in them for a little while, which isn’t a good sign.  I’ll use them for my track tempo next week rather than a dirt/grass run in case I want to return them.  Also found at an online reseller a $55 pair of new (well, unused anyway, as Nike stopped making the shoe in 2016) Nike Lunar Tempo 2s.  I like to do my easy days in light shoes, even more now that I’m running slowly on soft dirt & grass.  My current easy day show is a Lunar Tempo 1, which was discontinued around 2015 but still seems fine.

James - nice week and hope those new Reebok's don't turn out to be a dud (hooray for free returns, though).

Me - slightly lighter week with 3 good workouts.  Tues was moderate (really just to warm the legs up for Wed), Wed was harder (4x7 min hard / 3 min easy), and Saturday's track session was 8x800m with 200m jog recovery which is a really tough one.  The pic below is from my favourite Coastal Walkway loop, actually took it at lunchtime on Saturday but it was great down there this morning too.

                            James nice sensible week.

Mark great job on the 800s and solid week.

I got in 50kms running. Calf was good until today when it started to ache 7kms in so I shuffled home.

The sore bruised feeling in the outside middle of my foot is much better. Could that be the peroneal tendon ?

I read that it can cause pain in that area.

Could be linked to the calf. If I go see a physiotherapist they will tell me to rest for 6 weeks.....

My week done.  Only ended up doing one hamstring rehab session, I'm meant to do three - I had some bad Platar Fasiciitis early in the week which caused me to rest, it's been pretty good second half of the week.  My hamstring is slowly getting better, I managed a "long run" on Sunday.

43.7 km, so my biggest week this year.

I also went into other buildings late last week too after seven weeks only at home.  First place was the dentist (thankfully no fillings), and then the mechanics.  And today the supermarket, so exciting times!

Yesterday, my sister and family came around.  They had their second child April 6, so because of lock-down, yesterday was  the first time I'd seen the new boy.

I also work in the office this coming week.  At work, we're splitting teams in two, blue and white, next week blue (that's me) are at work and we are at home the following week.  With white the opposite.  It will be pretty exciting going in, catching the train etc.

Club runs also start back this week.  Although it's all split into different meeting times with each group at max 10 people (current social gathering limit).  Although I won't be going back quite yet.

Wellington Atheletics are attempting to have a club season still, a couple of events were cancelled, and they're hoping to revise dates for the other races.  Hopefully they'll happen, quite possibly with modifications - maybe split the race times up so that the groups aren't too large.  Although, I'd say that NZ would have to get to a 100 person gathering limit for this to be achievable.

Piwi - I doubt my physio would recommend six weeks off.  I didn't run at the start with my physio, but that was because I pretty much couldn't run at all.  Unless really serious, the complete rest solution is a bit outdated, so hopefully Tauranga physios are younger than the average person in Tauranga!

For the non-NZer, Tauranga is a retirement mecca, due it being a small city with a mild climate by the beach.

                              Mark - nice week.
