Sub 1:30 Half Marathon in 2020 (Read 618 times)

Golf is a sport.  Most sports end up with some physical aspect that is not important.  E.g. you don't need much upper body strength for a marathon.

Never understood the hobby vs. sport arguments. What exactly defines a sport? Clearly there is competition in golf. Is it hand/eye coordination? Obviously a ton of that. Is it physical exertion? That exists too (walk 36 holes in 80+ heat, it's way harder than almost every run I do except a 22 miler). I mean by these definitions, a 30 minute run is not a sport, it's a hobby. There is no competition, it doesn't require hand/eye coordination, and it's not real physical exertion.

I might argue that golf is more of a sport than running. How about that for an unpopular opinion?

I totally get what you’re saying and I’ve said it before that I think golf is the ultimate sport in both physical and mental ability.

Marky, if you were a top professional golfer and had to sink a 2 foot putt for an extra million in the bank, that putt is pressure even though it’s supposed to be “easy”.    And nearly all the modern golfers hit the gym regularly strength training.

Also, try playing golf with almost any injury, even a minor one.  You'll soon discover how much physical exertion is involved.

Ha, I'm no golfer.  Way too frustrating.  Me and the gf like to go to the driving range sometimes.  Much more fun when it doesn't matter where it goes!  I prefer soccer too

This is exactly my point...it’s fun when you can just whack a ball in the driving range....but when it comes to playing a competitive game of golf then what??  100% concentration is needed EVERY shot and that is difficult to maintain for 4 hours.

Seriously? First time to South Island?

I play golf very rarely. However, I built a golf course (as part of a real estate development). Well, my partner thought we were building a golf course. I had a different idea -- found a good use for it: Cross-country.

It's been playable since 2008. I've played every hole on it, I still haven't played the whole course at once.

Thanks I enjoyed the Snell interview. I didn't know much about him but consistent 100 mile weeks being stressed over and over was kind of nice. The trial of miles. Miles of trials.
