Darkwave - I suspect Stryd is actually 3 guys in a garage. They’ll probably be able to answer your questions.

Steve - good luck with the phallic supplies.

me - 10x45s hill sprints went well today. Already too hot at 7am so gotta go out around 6am probably going forward.

Americans - by wearing masks you are covering God's creation. Covid is an invention of the communists.

English - I miss the pub! Damn Covid!

Brazilians - Joke is on you, Dengue kills more than Covid

Kiwis - Wait, which Nathan Jones is this one?

I’m not a fan of races that require you to bring your own cup for water stops! Plus Mt Maunganui Half is better timed as a tune up race for the marathon.

The defending marathon champ at Taupo is a club mate of mine. He’s had some injury niggles so I’m not sure whether or not he will be down there this weekend.

Steve -- I hope the phallic supplies keep the cold away!

Piwi - hilarious summation of the variety of responses. I really wish America could pull together long enough to properly deal with this. Everything on Facebook is so incredibly political right now that it's just absurd, and frankly my biggest gripe is every news article is "XYZ Happened, and it matters because ..."

              😡

              😡

              😡

Quit telling me why, and just tell me what happened! Also anything having to do with HCQ just sets me off.If I get sick and my doctor recommends it, I'll take it. That's what I pay him for, to stay up to date on the peer reviewed information in his field. Everyone else should just shut up and do a proper study and get it peer reviewed instead of pretending to be knowledgeable .

Anyways our school district just announced that they're recommending hybrid learning for all kids for the first quarter. Kids will go to school 2 days per week and stay home 3 (alternating) so the classrooms should be half-full. They anticipate recommending this approach for Q2 as well but haven't officially made the recommendation yet. I'm glad they're doing it, but honestly unsure if it will be sufficient.

Due to the recent resurgence of cases here, my club has gone back to groups of no larger than 4 for our runs and staggered starts which is good in my mind, but unfortunate as it caused us to cancel a beer mile. I also slept through our 5AM start this morning which means I need to do a workout in the heat today ... ugg. On the plus side instead of doing it on a mostly flat trail, I get the option of driving to a hilly park which is always a ton of fun. Frankly one downside of not having an official plan I'm following is that I have about 8 different workouts I want to do, and realistically none of them are going to be significantly better for me than any other.

                RIP Milkman

Ohhh I love a good Nathan Jones reference!

Steve may take the crown from me for taper madness. I held a strong reign from 2017-2018, but 2019 was pretty stable for me with no taper injuries. Steve is clearly the king now. All hail Steve!

Piwi - no, we have a nurse. Although I can't really converse with my MIL because she doesn't speak a lot of English, so I wouldn't mind her in the house at all. My wife on the other hand would go insane.

Zebano - I got off Facebook years ago. It was great when I was in college (in fact don't know how I would have gotten through college without it, but that's when it was only for college kids). Now, it's just a cesspool of trolls. I know a lot of folks stick around to keep up with people, but the politicization of everything in this country is reaching very high levels. However, when you read about the Civil War, you realize that this is still nothing. People aren't getting beaten over the head with a cane on the Senate floor yet.

JMac - I've always been a bit crazy in a taper...I definitely feel fatigued and have a bit of a sore throat but advised my manager that I'm working from home today and the extra sleep seems to have helped.  It's not ideal being at work and getting wound up and distracted by every cough or sneeze.  I'm really amazed how many people are still turning up to work sick and then not being told to stay away.  It's like all the panic and overreaction was for nothing....

JMac - (Belated) congratulations!  One of the nice things about the first couple of months is that they sleep so much and are so light that it's fairly easy to take them places, not that you're probably going out too much these days.

Zebano - Our school district just changed its mind and decided to have the first few weeks online.  This gives me access to a track during school hours for a few more weeks, so I like it.  Our son goes to a private school that's giving parents the option of sending their kids or going online for the first four weeks and then reevaluating.  The online kids will Zoom into the regular classes three times a week for each subject and do independent study for the other two.  The school is planning to distribute lunches to classrooms and covered outside areas rather than having tons of kids gathering in the cafeteria each day, and they've bought some sort of ion-zapping HVAC system that is believed to kill viruses.  Masks are required.  Our son is 17, and I think he & his classmates will be pretty responsible, but I don't know how the teachers will keep the little kids apart (the school is pre-K through 12th grade, but divided by age in four separate buildings).  Hope it works.

Another driving question - A few weeks ago, I asked about driving four hours the afternoon before a race, but the half that I was hoping to do this at cancelled soon after.  My third choice half is two hours away, but it's in a time zone an hour behind us, and the race is on the morning we go off daylight savings time, so I could leave home at what would feel like 6am my time and get there at 6am local actual time an hour before the 7am start, with time to get my bib and warm up.  Have any of you driven (or ridden) for a couple of hours immediately before a race, and do you think it slowed you down by much?

A much more succinct way of saying what I was hinting at.

James - my race on Sunday is 1.5 hours drive but they have the start time at a later 10am because most people will be travelling.  I've done this race once before and arrived an hour before the start to make sure I was out of driving mode.  I had a great race that day.

James - driving two hours before hand is not ideal.  Arriving one hour before hand would be ok - are they sending out bib numbers in the mail?  If the race started outside your house, and there was strong winds, that would not be ideal either, but you need to race what you can get right now.

In other news, my contracting gig finished yesterday.  Originally it was to mid September, but it got cut short, so I got the 10 working days notice the start of the week before last - they're slashing costs right now in response to bad financials due to the recession.  I've got a few opportunities I'm working on, which will hopefully be sorted in the next week or two.
