Sub 1:30 Half Marathon in 2020 (Read 554 times)

How much weight did you gain in a week Piwi??

Speaking of the WR, I had a tab open to it all day and 10 minutes before work got super busy and I missed it. I still haven't watched... grr.

Mark I love how everything is new to kids at that age, it makes everything more exciting to see someone experience flying for the first time. I'm also jealous of  how well you guys have handled Covid, I don't want to risk an airplane around here. ugg.

Good luck to Watson and Mark this weekend.

    1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 45:24 (2017), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Mary - 3:37:17 (2018)

      Forecast is looking good.

Flavio - I think sub 45 is a soft aim?

Mark - are you in Wellington or Wairarapa today?  We drive over on thee morning, so I won't see you until after I have finished.

      PRs: 5km 18:43 (Dec 2015), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:26:16 (Sep 2016), full 3:09:28 (Jun 2015)

      40+ PRs: 5km 19:31 (Oct 2020), 10km 39:59 (Sep 2020), half 1:29:39 (Jun 2018)

I'm guessing the achilles and the PTT are tied, with the high hamstring and the peroneals not too far behind.

We can set up polls on this site, right?

High hamstring definitely for me.  My right one kept me on the shelf (well, in the pool) for three months in 2018 and has flared back up.  Was a little sore last week but worse after 800s on Sunday, and when I started out Monday hoping the soreness would go away, it just didn't.  I took Monday off, swam instead of running Tuesday, and took a planned off day Wednesday to take our son to look at a university.  During my easy run today it was sore, but it didn't get any worse during the run and occasionally went away or moved to lower hamstring or upper inner hamstring.  I kept going, because it felt like as long as I stayed at a 9-minute-mile pace it wouldn't get worse. I'll see how it feels tomorrow; if bad, I may swim instead.

        Good luck, Mark & Watson!

        Post-1987 PRs:  Half 1:30:14 (2019); 10K 39:35 (2019); 5K 19:12 (2017); Mile 5:37.3 (April '20)

Revised 2020 Goals:  40+ mpw (getting there), 5K<19:30 (not yet); Mile<5:40 (done), no injuries

I voted Achilles. Mine have been sore at times over my running years but I've been able to manage it with higher drop shoes and less hill running.

Flavio is in sub 38 form if conditions allow.

The womens 5000m world record was great to watch.

She also has a name which is Kiwi slang for hello

Watson - we are in Masterton now. Will do a bit of sightseeing tomorrow, the markets, playground and wildlife park should keep us occupied. Staying Sunday night in Martinborough, then fly home Monday. That drive over the Rimutaka Ranges was a bit exciting, less winding than Coromandel but slightly more nerve-wracking with log trucks flying in the other direction!

My least favourite tendon is probably still the Achilles. Haven’t had too many niggles with it recently but it was a real problem when I was playing hockey. Honourable mentions to post-tibial and peroneal though.

And yes I think I probably won’t see you until the finish Watson, the full starts at 7am and the half at 8:40 so unless I blow up horribly I doubt I’ll see you on the course even though it’s a two lapper.

                Good luck guys.

I remember that Rimutaka road well from when I was a boy.

There does seem to be an approaching northerly for Sunday but you may be sheltered from it down there.

MetService has it at around 10km/h (that’s 6 miles per hour for the Luddites) which is pretty much a non-issue.

Watson/Mark - if you guys do meet on the course it should be a fun and awkward conversation heh.

James - Hopefully it's nothing and you're back on track.

Zeb - It looks like you're on the other side already.

Piwi - PR would be sweet, sub 38 would be great. Hopefully I don't go off course.

me - I was joking about the sub 45 minutes aim of course, you guys know me, I'll go out in PR pace and hope I don't bust, like always.

40's and light wind is A+ marathon weather. So jealous, never had that in a single one.

GOOD LUCK MARK! In all seriousness, your pacing approach looks right. Just remember, when you feel good at KM 10 and start thinking "I'm having a great day!", it's just Satan sitting on your shoulder telling you that you should speed up.

Thanks all. Woke up with a bit of a headache this morning but it seems unusually dry here and I had a couple of bourbons last night given we’re on holiday so I don’t think it’s an issue. Going to drive the course today. Tonight’s dinner is likely to be a burger and fries (as is pre-race tradition) and no bourbon haha.
