They must be the only big generic consultancy firm in NZ like that.

I have heard both Deloitte and PWC are both still mainly work in office places.

PwC was prior to the first lockdown; it's probably shifted a bit since then as people have realised it does actually work (from being forced to do it for several months), although it's starting to creep back to mainly working in the office.  A lot of the analysts prefer to work in the office because the setup there is often better than the flats they're living in.

Forecast has gotten worse.  Moderate Northerly which is the bad wind for this course.  I am at work, looking out and can see most of the course.

Aim now 30s worse, wanting 19:45

Steve can you add Hagley Park run 7th November for me cheers.

Mark i looked at the PwC website and I still can't figure out what they do . I only understand basic jobs.

Wind was moderately strong, but not too bad.

Ran 19:31/19:32.  Paced well, first half 9:45, second 9:46/9:47.

            Each km was

            3:52

            3:52

            3:57

            3:56

            3:51

0:03 (my watch measured long for a change)

Lost a few seconds on the 4th km due to a minor crash between a racer (a 10/11 year old girl from my club and a cyclist).  I stopped to make sure they were OK.

Zeb - Oh, it’s nice to be young haha, no sleep then a 5h hiking: no problem!

Oh, I watched that race live IIRC, Emma was already a stud at the time, the others were just distracted I guess.

Oh, I’m not going to challenge Piwi, he’s obviously the much faster runner (low 17’s 5K), even if he’s currently dedicated to surfing and kayaking.

Watson - thanks for the race report. Don’t you guys have a flat half marathon course in New Zealand? Every race report from you guys includes going up and down hills.

LOL at the description of PWC, that pretty much sums it up.

Mark - Congratz on the new job! I’ve done a project for EY, it seemed like a nice company (HUGE company too). Are you in a sales-y position? That would explain your preference for working in the office as relationships are probably the cornerstone of your performance.

Follow up question: Where do you fit in the extrovert/introvert scale? Extroverts naturally prefer to be in the office as they need to be around people to feel well and they simply can't understand the need to be alone.

For reference I'm around the middle (ambivert), leaning a bit towards introversion and the in-office noise is just too much for me Sad

I do enjoy socializing with people but it draws my energy and after around 90 minutes I'm like end-of-marathon exhausted.

One other aspect that might influence this is whether the people you work with are in the office. For a lot of people in IT, even if they go into the office, the people they work with in their projects are distributed around the world, and the people sitting next to them are working on other projects and departments.

Wellington is really hilly, but oddly most road races are on the flat.

Christchurch is quite flat, as is most of their races.

If you have a technical IT job, then you need quiet to do complex tasks.  My work involves other teams across three offices, plus my client.  The only reason I came in today was for the after work race.  I will go in tomorrow as most of my team are in Wednesdays - although I don't really work with my team much as we are generally on different projects.

Flavio - no problem was not the right way to describe the no sleep + hike but I did get it done. Honestly the hardest part about it was just the general noise level when we were all crammed into the van.  When I'm worn down, stuff like that really grates.

Mark congrats on the new job! I hope it's what you were looking for. I'm personally introverted but like being in the office to have a nice 15 minute morning and lunch chatter around the coffee maker followed by going into my office, closing the door and having an excellent workspace (which I don't have at home). It's also harder to read emotional subtext over Teams than it is in person. I also have a fellow triathlete that I work with that I enjoy shooting the breeze with when he's overly not hung up on "bike fit" topics =)

                  Watson - That's a solid race, especially with a stop in KM4!

                  1600 - 5:23 (2018), 5k - 19:33 (2018), 10k - 41:20 (2021), half - 1:38:57 (2018), Marathon - 3:37:17 (2018)

Lapped by Watson - great race, very even pace. Do you guys have any restrictions at all in your races at the moment with regards to COVID, or is it pretty much life as it was before? I think I read in Auckland they were requiring masks in public transportation, is that still the case?

Flavio im not sure about Auckland but we have no restrictions where i live. Sub 18 was a long time ago for me, 6 years. I want to pretend been 52 isn't a factor but aging is a real thing

Watson lol on the PwC description. When I hear the word consultant I see big $ signs.

Nice 5k and strong last km. Man there were some fast times in that race. 2 50 year olds sub 17.

I think I might be the only blue collar worker on here. Running seems to attract mostly professional people.

I'm an extrovert although I work alone and don't socialize?

James - Is your son recovering well?

DWave - Still doing better, I trust.

Piwi - Sugar in coffee?? I'm not sure we can be step-up-from-imaginary friends any longer...

Zebano - Aeropress for the win!! I even have a travel one I take with me when I go anywhere. I'm also a fan of steeplechase.

Watson - Nice RR. And awesome that the whole family ran!

Just shy of 40 miles last week, with nearly half coming from me pacing a guy during his first attempt at an ultra - a 100 miler at that (he ended up finishing in 22:34). That was a neat experience, and definitely something I'd do again. I really thought the race was on trails, but it's actually mostly on dirt/gravel roads similar to what I typically run on. On my way back home from that race I stopped by a 24 hour race in OKC and met up with Krash. I certainly wouldn't have figured that the first person I'd meet from the forum would be someone from the ultra side of things.
Also, some selective segment sniping continues. Not sure if I'll wait until November to actually start building up again or if I'll start up next Monday and call that "close enough".

Flavio - border quarantine of 14 days is the only restriction right now.  We have a level system, right now all of NZ is Level 1, which is just the border.  Level 2 has masks on public transport and no mass gathering.  Level 3 is very restricted.  Level 4 is extremely restricted.

I can confidently say that PwC are very good at extolling their virtues for free (although if you need something, it will cost you).  Nicely paced on that 5km.

Flavio - I am a big introvert but I enjoy the interactions with people in the office - a bit like Zebano I like having chats with the team and often you get the best results from collaboration when you can physically jump up and start drawing on a whiteboard with someone.  But often there are times in the office where I just need to put my headphones on too!  How you describe yourself is actually a textbook definition of introvert too - it's not that introverts don't enjoy being social (most do... it's just human nature), it's just that it drains your energy and you then need time out to recharge the batteries.  Conversely extroverts tend to get energised being around people.  My wife's family are extroverts and will all sit around talking when everyone is obviously exhausted and I'll often be sitting there thinking "can we all just shut up and go to bed?" haha.

I have a senior role so more and more it becomes about business development and bringing in new work, so the relationships internally and externally are really important.

piwi - you may be blue collar and you talk yourself down, but in person you come across quite intellectual - not sure if you'll take that as a compliment or insult!

mark - Congrats on the new role.  Is banishing you to work from home equivalent to gardening leave?  I'm also an introvert and we now have more flexible working so I'm at home on Thursday and Friday.  I've worked full-time at home for 18 months before and loved it.  I'm happy with the balance it gives me now although maybe one more day at home would work.
