RWOL Refugees -- (Read 3876 times)

I have been here for a few years as I was part of the CR migration - I have a question to RW Refugees:  Are you not keeping your log on RA yet or do you have your logs hidden.  The culture at RA is the vast majority of people leave their logs public.

I guess I am suprised at the number of people asking running related questions without open logs.  The answer to a question is often crafted better with a frame of training reference.

+1.  I did find, though, that it made me think twice about my workout notes -- didn't want to use my wife's or kids' names, say too many street names, etc.  Someone can very easily get your real name from your log and correlation with, say, race results ... and then quickly have your home address.  Knowing extra personal-info shit isn't what want to enable.  (Oh, and set your workout maps default to Private.)

But that little bit of mindfulness is a small price in return for having knowledgeable folks give better answers/advice by seeing what I'm doing.

On the other hand, I figure, there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of people who know my real name, what street I live on, have my cell phone number, know what company I work for, know my kids names, what streets I generally run on, etc, etc. The odds of some crazy stalker from faraway on the internet deciding to target me versus someone I've wronged in "real life" seem pretty remote. So I just don't worry about it. And my SS# and DOB don't come up often in my workout notes so I figure I'm good.

Then don't bitch when you glance in the rear-view mirror on your commute home, and I'm sitting in the back seat.

          Again.

Your  username looks very familiar. Like perhaps we know each other. Per your profile you are an "ex-forum moderator of trash". Would that trash be golf related?

Also popping in from RWOL (still tons of spam).  Seems like I was already registered and going to see if there's an avatar once I post this message (can't find a place to check).

                    Hello everyone!

Hello everyone, nice to see familiar peeps. I really like it here, hope we get to stay Cool

What up doe!  Thanks for the welcome you and your peeps have offered.

My guess is most will simply need time to feel truly confortable with the new atmosphere until they "release" their logs.  Not that it is a big deal (to each his/her own), we just come from a different enviroment.

Someone posted a comment that they could tell us apart from others because of this, and for the most part, it's true...for now.

I would venture to guess though that by this time next year, that will not be the case.

In the meantime, try not to roll your eyes when you don't see them displayed.

Thanks again, you peeps have been great considering the circumstances!

Letting your log hang out fully exposed still works great here for people with unfounded paranoia issues. Just keep your notes and maps private. Call every route and race "default." Still you will be sharing meaningful data about your training and results from your training.

You also might consider that folks may not have their logs imported over yet, and thus may have nothing to show.  Or possibly they're like me, and they don't actually run.  Stupid knee.

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.
