    RIP Milkman

The Frank Meza story just turned really sad, as he committed suicide apparently.

Strangely I've never actually had any dreams about running, at least not that I can remember.

Anyway that is sad about Frank Meza.

My running dreams are usually about not being able to get my shoes on when it was about to start - similar to an old favourite about not having time to get my pads on in a game of cricket.

Very sad story about Frank Meza.  He clearly had a lot of issues.

Still waiting on my hammy/glute to come right.  Not far away now but it is hanging around stubbornly.  Had dry needling at the physio last week, which has certainly woken it up.  I'm a bit skeptical but willing to try anything now.

            RIP Milkman

Steve - dry needling saved my running career when it was barely getting started. I had given up thinking I was permanently getting injured all the time (was running only 15-20 mpw at the time). After countless other things, dry needling was the one thing that solved so many issues for me. I was having, often at the same time, issues in my hip flexors, glutes, and adductor. I thought they were all injuries when it turned out I was just having trigger point flare ups that were then causing other spots to get worse. Sometimes dry needling doesn’t work for me, but it’s worth giving it a try if you’ve done everything else.

Interesting.  She stuck 2 big needles into my glute/butt and when she found the spot it was like an electric shock all the way down my leg.  I definitely thought it had triggered things to work properly but it's been a bit sore ever since and I've been too nervous to try a run.  Maybe I should just give it a go and see if it's woken up the muscles.

                RIP Milkman

Oh those spasms when they hit the right spot are oddly satisfying. They definitely can get crazy sore, but it’s like getting a flu shot in your arm, it’s just from the needle penetrating muscle. You’re injured though so you may want to wait until the soreness goes away, otherwise you won’t be able to tell whether it’s just from the needling or actual injuries.

Anyway huge fan of dry needling, it’s the rich man’s lacrosse ball.

It was feeling fine until the needling so I think it might be worth giving it a go because I think it's just the needle pain.

You guys are getting things put in your butts to cause spasms...

My butt has finally come right. Pretty much the day I booked PT so I ended up cancelling. Good old father time healed it. Just did my first hill run in 2 months.

                        Hi!

My last week was a bit of a recovery and a bit of a taper for the second track and field event of the team competition. Since there were not many around, I covered high jump and hammer, Javelin, triple and long jump and 400 meters hurdles. I really enjoyed the day and even found that, with a bit of a anaerobic training, I may be able to compete a bit on the 400 M hurdles on my age group...

On Sunday me and my family travelled to Italy. we will stay here for 5 weeks (I will work from here, and have a travel to North Carolina for  a week on the 21st... ). I am now back to reality, trying to get my half marathon plan started for the Belfast city half marathon. I am training in the heat (Italy is definitely warmer and more humid than Belfast) and at sea level. For now I am enjoying it, although I am still a bit sore from Saturday.

Yesterday I managed 4X800 meters interval, 3' each, with 200 meters (about 1'30'') recovery in between. I think I can be happy considering how close to the track and filed race it was.

today and on Monday just a few slow miles. The plan is to consistently be on 40 miles per week from now on.

                        PRs since re-started in 2013:

                        5km: 19:43 (Belfast park run Sep-16) | 10km: 40:16 (Belfast Lagan side 10K Sep-18)

HM: 1:30:09 (Belfast city Half Marathon, September-18) | FM: 3:25:05 (official chip time Belfast city Marathon, May-19, marathon was 0.3/4 longer, original time 3:27:20 for 26.5/6...)

Steve - our esteemed overlord is going to be unhappy about this because:

                            1. NZ-specific banter

                            2. About a sport that is mostly only played in the UK and a bunch of current or former British colonies (admittedly covering over ~2b people)

                            but yes...

I am dangerously close to cheering for Australia against England in the other semi-final.  The Aussies, despite being the worst sledgers in the history of the game, had a sook earlier in the tournament about people booing convicted cheaters Warner and Smith for cheating, and I can't stand them.  Having said that, if it is an Aust. v NZ final, you know who the English crowd would support (hint, not Australia: https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/cricket-world-cup/114106451/cricket-world-cup-2019-barmy-army-produce-pink-floydinspired-david-warner-song)
