ah this board never disappoints, middle aged men sharing stories about what they dream
and about sticking needles in their butts.

(thankfully MickJogger was looking away at that moment)

Then Mark and Steve are talking about a certain "world cup" which is played by NZ, AUS, India and England

I just took 2 days off due to a cold. I hope to be back on track on Saturday

And Pakistan.  And South Africa.  And Bangladesh.  And Sri Lanka.  And Afghanistan.  And the West Indies.  But yes that's about it.

I thought for a second the women's World Cup (the real one) was having some secondary tournament for the losers.

They had to make up a country to fill in the roster with 10 countries hahaha.

That's not quite true.  I mean yes it's a made up country but there were 7 other teams that didn't qualify, including such heavyweights as Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Zimbabwe.

To be honest it's not that different when it comes to rugby.  There are basically only ever 4-5 teams that have a realistic chance of winning the World Cup, 4 or 5 other teams capable of an upset on the day, and a bunch of others that get invited to make up the numbers.  We're quite good in NZ at picking fringe sports that we're quite talented at but most of the world doesn't care about and putting all our eggs in those baskets.  Might explain our sad lack of decent track and field athletes these days (with a few exceptions).

Ah that was a surprise waking up to the cricket news. It's a pity the time zone sucks.

I went past Kayne Williamson up Papamoa Hills one day. He's from Te puke which is 5 mins away. Hes pretty small even shorter than me I think

I'm struggling a bit today...had to pour a bourbon at 1am when things were getting tight.

To be fair, while the football world cup has way more depth, there's also only 4-5 teams that ever win that too.

                  That's probably fair.

And cricket-mad India getting knocked out by NZ in a cricket world cup semi-final (given the form guide) is the equivalent of football-mad Brazil getting knocked out by an underdog too like say Chile or Sweden in the FIFA World Cup.

Rather happy and rather tired after watching the cricket.

Technically it's actually 19+ countries involved in the World Cup.  As the West Indies is between 9 and 15 countries depending on how you count St Kitts and Nevis, overseas territories etc.  Plus England is actually England and Wales.

It's a lot better than having a domestic competition, inviting 1-2 teams from the neighbor country, and calling it a World Series!

I want England to win the other semi as:

                    - I think we have a better chance against England.

                    - Australia have won it 5 times.  And 4 of the last 5.  So I don't want them to win another.

                    - England v NZ means a new country is definitely going to win it, which is good for the game.
