Sub 1:30 Half Marathon in 2019 (Read 641 times)

Mark, back in my last year at uni I wrote a Black-Scholes simulation model for a project...great memories!  That one got me some ladies...

Black-Scholes is still the definitive methodology.  The classics never die!

My wife and I are going out for dinner for her birthday tomorrow night, I'll have to put this on the discussion agenda.

JMac - I may have been looking for a reaction from piwi for that...

Mark - When my girlfriend is having trouble sleeping she asks for one of my cricket or running stories.  I never run out because she goes to sleep so quickly she can't remember any of the story.  If that's not sad enough, she's not the first girlfriend to make that request...

        RIP Milkman

Ha yeah Black Scholes is a really good party topic.

Piwi I’m watching the OKC game right now, it’s on national TV here. They look terrible again. We’ll see how the rest of it goes.

I did Black-Scholes at uni too.

The thing about thing about the statistical financial models is they work really well until well until black swan events.  Which happen every 10-20 years or so

DJ - thanks for the Standard Error explanation.

I’m not sure what’s funnier... Steve’s girlfriend stories or the fact that you googled Black Scholes on a Friday night.

Or the fact that all the black swan references other than Watson’s have gone totally over my head.

Brent - true story: I actually attempted to set up an old classic Nintendo NES system on my treadmill TV, simply because I remember you used to be able to play video games while on the TM. Yeah/nah - I tried and couldn't find the coordination required for it. So I moved it to another upstairs TV just to still be able to play some of the old classics.

Piwi Kiwi - they're calling that thunder/spurs game the game of the year so far, with all the crazy stats and double OT. Too bad it didn't work out in our favor in the end. We play them again back at home next, hopefully a different result.

Jmac - I think we need you to claim an NBA team as favorite so we can return the banter. Perhaps choose one of your local teams...not the really terrible one, but maybe the not so terrible one.

Matthew - thanks. No I don't do the strava thing, but you're the latest of many to ask me, so I guess I may have to consider it.

Yeah Watson's version of Black Swan is the only one I know of, movie with a few steamy NSFW scenes...

Weather turned for the worse finally here in northern Ohio. Snow, ice, wind, the usual for this time of year. I was able to slog through a slippery run with some strides toward the end last night in the dark.

Thought I saw Sam posting in the marathon threads. He's another RW refugee.

Matt - Yes, you heard right! Mark and I are playing our 4th game via chess.com now. If you didn't read that far back, I've somehow been paired up against a FIDE Master from Turkey in a postal game. So far his play has been kind of odd - quite a few more pointless waiting moves than I would have imagined. Chess.com is free to register if you want to try getting a game or so going. I'm "CommanderKeen" over there.

Steve - LOL! Back when I actually went to the chess club to play my wife would ask me to tell her about chess games when she couldn't sleep.

DJ - You mean NotSam? He migrated over here soon after RWOL shut down, along with most of the sub-3:20 thread. Hasn't posted much lately due to injury/lack of running, I think.

I had to look up Black-Scholes. The formula looked intimidating at first, but I suppose if you know the variables to plug in it's much more straightforward. It's certainly well outside of what I deal with, though. Let me know if anyone wants to discuss SAN vs hyper-converged storage.

I can tell the antibiotics are nearly out of my system, which is just a great feeling. This morning's run felt like I had more fitness than earlier in the week, and my HR was lower (and pace a tiny bit faster) despite a much hillier route. Makes me look forward to tomorrow's "long" run a bit more.

My watch thinks I'm horrifically out of shape! My VO2 max estimate has plummeted to the point that the "theoretical" PRs are slower than my actual PRs, except for the marathon. Even that one will be well within reach once I'm back in shape, though.

DJ it was a good game but we were always behind it seemed. 13/14 3 pointers is insane. I hope Adam's ankle is ok.

Remember Phillypharm Matt Nguyen? He's on my strava. Still in Germany. Haven't seen much activity lately.

Keen Sam is on my Strava but I haven't seen him on there lately.

Flavio I think another pair of my running shoes were stolen outside the other night. Remember back in 2013 the same thing happened and you mentioned how unsafe it was in Brazil. Luckily they were my stinky ones with 1000kms on lol. They left my good ones.

I did my longer run today from my place down to and around the mount and home. I mistakenly thought Steve was up this weekend so planned this one then realised it was next weekend. Anyway calf was good. A bit achy in the hips and I pulled a muscle in my neck body surfing a couple of days ago. The half ironman was on so got to see the cycling leg on my route.
