I have done 10 miles in -20 degree cold. The heat is so much worse. Goggles and layers you're fine in the cold. Heading out now...only 102 index now at 8:30 pm. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh

    Wind is not my friend.

I’m good with normal cold. Negatives piss me off after 3 miles because I’m warm but know it won’t last. Wind is horrible and heat and humidity is a jerk.

So went out at 930 at about 100 degrees with 80% humidity. Ideal.  Goal was 2E + 4 x 1 mi T (6:14) with 1 min rest + 4x200R. My warmup of a mile went slower than my normal relaxed pace so wasn’t sure how that was going to translate. I do these mile repeats in the neighborhood and my loop works out well and not too hilly at all. First repeat, went off okay and trying to find the pace without looking at the watch. 6:02. Oops. Well, gives me a little room to slow down now. Next split, coming in dying quite a bit more but hoping it was on pace. 6:10. Next split, with about 200m left, my body just wanted to quit. Caught myself slowing to a crawl for a split second but hit 6:11. That was it. Done. No more. Got a mile cooldown and called it.

Not sure what would have happened if I went for the 4th. Body just didn’t like the heat and that speed in the heat. I’m probably going to treadmill a long run tomorrow. Gotta find something to binge. Heard Veep is good.

      RIP Milkman

I don’t have access to a treadmill, so it’s going to be 17 in the ridiculous heat. I’m legit worried. Going to stop every 2 miles for a lot of water. Goal isn’t to get 17 continuous, just to be out there and get the miles in. Will turn around early if I feel horrible. This is the kind of heat/humidity that you worry about your health in. I’ve had over 50 oz of liquid since coming home and I’m still very thirsty, which is not a great sign.

If you’re going to binge, I’ve heard Chernobyl is excellent on HBO. Depressing, but everyone is telling me to watch it. Veep is excellent too, on the lighter side.

Don’t have HBO. Netflix and amazon for me at the moment. I’m headed to the Y for the treadmill run. I go about 3 times a year (my wife goes a lot more).

Speaking of heat and dehydration I was watching "Walking the Nile " on tv the other night with journalist Levison Wood. One of his mates couldn't cope with the 45c heat and kept stopping and then died. It was very sad.

If you feel shit then don't push on. It's not worth it and you wont lose any fitness.

Mick - was the 21k a race or training run?

for me it was a race; for you it would have been a training run (103min). But most of it on gravel so the vaporflys are not built for that. Not sure however what caused the friction but it was bad.

DPS - I never run with my phone but once or twice I've actually wondered what I would do if I got into trouble.  Not helped by the fact I run early when it's often still dark, albeit I normally stick to well-lit areas or the main roads.

Me - another week of winter training in the bag, and the real winter weather kicked in particularly Tuesday/Wednesday with rain and wind.  It's satisfying getting through the work, but I gotta admit I'm looking forward to racing again in just over a month's time.  I threw a 7km tempo effort into my long run today (at the 18km mark), not quite at half marathon pace, but still good to put the work in on slightly tired legs.

                          RIP Milkman

I ran this morning in 165 TDP. I stopped every 2 miles for water as planned, and drank as much as I could without feeling sick. I still couldn't hydrate enough for a 17 Mile run. I don't think you should really ever go longer than 90 minutes in these kinds of conditions. It wasn't just normal "I'm thirsty" at the end, it was "I may be doing damage to my body running like this." I know I complained a lot about weather last summer, but this was different. Can't wait to get back to more standard 150 TDP next week. There's something so awful about dew points hitting 75, way worse than temps hitting 90.

Anyway, pretty shitty way to end an otherwise good week. I've now had a great consistent stretch of 5 weeks in a row over 60 miles. Haven't done that since last September. I'll be going a bit shorter this week and then right back up the following.

I ran with my phone yesterday as I got a new one and wanted to try it with Strava gps. They can be a pain in your pocket. Surprisingly they are quite accurate tracking a run even in your pocket.

Schumacher I've got you on my Strava.

Watson Rebels had some good specials lately but I'm unfamiliar with some of the models so not brave enough to try them.

I'm at 50kms this week which is an 8 week high. I've been enjoying running this week. My son just got back from a holiday in Vietnam and will be keen to run today.

My fitness had dropped as expected without consistent good weeks. I did a couple of 3.40/kms on the beach yesterday and they felt quite hard.
